'Let's Not Overpraise the Pampered Actress': Anne Hathaway Says Pregnant Women Without Her Privileges Deserve More Credit
Hathaway says she is 'very happy' to work but has 'so much support' amid her busy 2026 schedule

Anne Hathaway has pushed back against praise for working while pregnant, saying people should not 'overpraise' her as a 'pampered actress' while highlighting how much support she has compared with pregnant women who may not have the same resources.
The 43-year-old actress is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman while promoting Verity, the fifth film in her 2026 release schedule. Hathaway has stressed that she is fortunate to have substantial help during an unusually busy period.
Anne Hathaway Pushes Back Against Pregnancy Praise
Hathaway was responding to praise for continuing to work during her pregnancy. She said she was 'very happy to do my job' but emphasised that she has 'so much support'.
'Please, let's not overpraise the pampered actress,' Hathaway said in an interview with AP Entertainment. 'There's a lot of pregnant women out there at home and in the workplace who, you know, didn't get a manicure this morning.'
Her comments highlighted the gap between her experience and that of pregnant women who may not have comparable support.
The actress has continued appearing at premieres, interviews and promotional events during her third pregnancy. At the New York premiere of Verity on 29 September, she showed her baby bump in a custom Prabal Gurung gown.
Hathaway's Five-Film 2026
Hathaway's comments came after an unusually busy year. She has starred in five films released in 2026: Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street and Verity.
The year has involved premieres and press appearances for the five films, prompting Hathaway to acknowledge that she does not expect to maintain the same pace. 'I'm going to rest pretty soon,' she said during an interview with co-star Josh Hartnett, who joked that the entertainment industry was becoming overly reliant on her.
At the Verity premiere, Hathaway also credited the people around her for helping her through the demanding period, describing them as 'an army of people behind me at every step' and saying she felt 'really lucky'.
Expecting Baby Number Three
Hathaway announced her pregnancy in June, revealing that she and Shulman are expecting their third child. The couple are already parents to sons Jonathan and Jack.
Her pregnancy has coincided with a 2026 release schedule that includes all five films, although the projects were filmed over several years. The five-film run represents a concentrated period of releases and promotion rather than five productions completed in a single year.
Verity Press Tour
Hathaway's remarks came as she promoted Verity, the psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel. She plays Verity Crawford alongside Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett in the Michael Showalter-directed adaptation.
The film follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, played by Johnson, who is hired to finish Crawford's books after an accident leaves the bestselling author unable to continue writing.
Verity was released in US cinemas on 2 October, marking the end of Hathaway's five-film run for 2026. She has indicated that she plans to take a break after the unusually busy period.
Hathaway also appeared to signal the end of her hectic year in a humorous video showing her seemingly 'vanishing', before a message thanked fans for their support and for making the year 'incredible' and 'unforgettable.'
