Anthony Kazmierczak's Ex-Wife Breaks Silence After Ilhan Omar Attack, Troubled Past Comes to Light
Anthony Kazmierczak's ex-wife speaks out following the Ilhan Omar attack.

The chaotic scene at a Minneapolis town hall has rippled far beyond the political arena, reaching into the quiet past of the man accused of the assault. Patrice Benoit, who severed ties with Anthony Kazmierczak nearly a decade ago, has found herself pulled back into the narrative of a man she once knew. Breaking her silence, she expressed deep sorrow over the violent outburst that targeted Representative Ilhan Omar.
Benoit Expresses Heartbreak Over the Violence
Benoit spoke exclusively to Newsweek, distancing herself from the 55-year-old suspect while offering sympathy to the victims. 'I was married briefly to Anthony Kazmierczak, and we divorced in March 2017. Our relationship ended at that time, nearly nine years ago,' she stated.
She emphasised her distress regarding the incident. 'I am heartbroken to hear of the attack on llhan Omar and wish peace, strength, and healing to everyone affected, including Ilhan's family and community and Anthony's family.'
Unknown Substance Sprayed During Town Hall Chaos
The assault occurred on Tuesday while the Congresswoman addressed supporters regarding protests against ICE. Eyewitnesses reported a foul odour emanating from a liquid sprayed from a syringe by the suspect. Despite the alarming nature of the attack, Omar refused to leave the stage, displaying defiance in the face of the threat.
'These f***ing ***holes are not going to get away with it,' she declared in footage captured by C-Span. 'Here's the reality that people like this ugly man don't understand.' The representative remained resolute, citing her upbringing as the source of her resilience against intimidation.
'We are Minnesota strong, and we will stay resilient in the face of whatever they might throw at us. I learnt at a young age that you don't give into threats,' Omar added. While the specific nature of the substance remains unconfirmed, photographs taken by the Associated Press revealed the remnants of a light-brown liquid inside the weapon.
Neighbour Warned of Arrest Before Town Hall Incident
Details emerging about Kazmierczak paint a picture of a man struggling with health issues and holding rigid political views. A neighbour, Brian Kelly, revealed to The New York Post that the suspect had asked him to watch his dog, Laura, just before the event.
Kelly recalled a chilling conversation where Kazmierczak predicted his own detention. 'He said, "I'm going to this Omar thing." I'm like, Omar what? He said "This town hall thing." And he said, "I might get arrested,"' Kelly recounted.
The neighbour dismissed the comment as nonsense at the time, believing Kazmierczak wouldn't do anything 'stupid'. Kelly also noted that the suspect suffers from Parkinson's disease and is 'heavily medicated' due to a spinal injury from a car accident nine years ago.
Rep. Ilhan Omar is a badass for staying to finish her speech after that f*cking asshole took a run at her and sprayed her with something. Minnesota strong.

Online Posts Reveal Hostility Toward Biden and Democrats
A deep dive into Kazmierczak's social media presence under the alias 'Andy' uncovers a history of sarcastic and critical commentary on the Biden administration. In a 2022 post, he mocked the intelligence of the public regarding President Biden and Nancy Pelosi.
He also compared Biden to the Looney Tunes character Elmer Fudd. His online activity extended to resharing content from conservative figures, including a post from Ben Shapiro regarding transgender athletes.
In 2025, following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Kazmierczak updated his profile picture to show Donald Trump at a Turning Point USA event. He later switched this to an image of Kirk's widow, Erika.
Previous Convictions and Heightened Political Tensions
Beyond his political venting, court records indicate Kazmierczak has faced legal trouble before, with two prior DUI convictions. Professionally, he described himself as a 'phone company business consultant' with over two decades of experience, and CNN reports he has been married and divorced twice.
The attack transpired in a volatile political climate, just hours after President Trump criticised Omar during a speech in Iowa. Trump suggested that immigrants must love the US to be allowed entry.
'They have to be proud, not like Ilhan Omar,' Trump told the crowd. 'She comes from a country that's a disaster. So probably, it's considered, I think - it's not even a country.' As the ex-wife speaks out to distance herself from the event, police continue to investigate the motive behind the syringe attack.
