A 2017 video of NFL player Deshaun Watson and Mia Khalifa is circulating on social media once again Mia Khalifa/Instagram

NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson and internet personality Mia Khalifa have found themselves at the centre of renewed online speculation after an old video of the pair resurfaced.

The footage dates back to 2017, when Watson was a rookie quarterback with the Houston Texans and celebrated his 22nd birthday. Khalifa posted a playful video involving Watson, prompting fans to speculate that the pair may have been romantically involved.

Another clip from the same period later attracted renewed attention. It showed the two playing miniature indoor basketball together. Khalifa appeared to be wearing a maid-style outfit while attempting to dunk on a small hoop, before Watson blocked her effort.

The footage quickly spread online, with social media users attempting to interpret the interaction as evidence of a relationship.

However, Khalifa dismissed the dating speculation at the time. Speaking to TMZ Sports in September 2017, she indicated that, despite the buzz, there was no romantic relationship between her and the then-NFL rookie.

Social Media Viewers Debate Watson's Past

The resurfaced footage has since prompted a mixture of reactions, with some users using the opportunity to reference allegations that later emerged against Watson.

One commenter wrote: 'Bro got handjobs at asian prostitution massage parlors, so did kraft. No one said hes innocent we just dont care.'

Another user said: 'She's the one that put the outfit on and probably told him she'll dunk on him too. She also wasn't one of the 24 women against him in trial. Foh.'

Others defended the interaction and argued that the footage simply showed two adults having fun.

'Who are you to judge what a man does with his life.... I see two consenting adults having fun. Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house. And Everybody lives in a glass house,' one person wrote.

The online discussion has brought renewed attention to allegations against Watson, although the old footage itself does not establish any connection to those later accusations.

Watson Denied Allegations as Lawsuits Were Filed

Watson's legal troubles began attracting widespread attention in March 2021, when women began filing civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct during massage appointments.

Ultimately, more than 20 women filed lawsuits against the quarterback. The women, several of whom worked as licensed massage therapists, alleged various forms of sexual misconduct, including unwanted touching and inappropriate behaviour.

Watson consistently denied the allegations and maintained that any sexual activity was consensual.

In June 2022, a Texas grand jury declined to indict Watson following a criminal investigation into allegations made against him. He also faced a separate criminal investigation in Houston, while the NFL conducted its own review.

The NFL ultimately suspended Watson for 11 games in 2022 and fined him $5 million (£3.8 million) after determining that he had violated the league's personal conduct policy.

The Cleveland Browns acquired Watson in a major trade with Houston in March 2022, signing him to a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million (£170 million) contract.

The resurfaced 2017 footage, however, relates to a period several years before the allegations emerged and has not been presented as evidence in those cases.
