Elon Musk's 'Beer Belly' Vanished Then His Weight Returned Elsewhere, Fuelling Liposuction Theory

Elon Musk's body shape has once again become a talking point online after recent images of the billionaire prompted speculation that his familiar 'beer belly' appeared to shrink before weight seemed to return around his chest and upper torso.

The theory, which has circulated among social media users and podcast commentators, claims Musk may have undergone liposuction around his stomach at some point, potentially changing where future weight was stored.

There is no public evidence confirming that Musk had the procedure, however, and photographs alone cannot establish whether cosmetic surgery is responsible for his changing silhouette.

Recent Images Renew Questions About Musk's Shape

The latest discussion emerged around images of Musk during attention surrounding SpaceX's expansion in Louisiana.

The company announced plans in August to invest $100 billion (£75.5 billion) in Starbase Louisiana, a massive launch complex in Vermilion Parish expected to become SpaceX's largest launch facility. Construction is due to begin in 2027, with the first launch targeted for 2029.

Against that backdrop, viewers focused less on the spaceport plans and more on Musk's physique. A widely shared post asked, 'What is wrong with Musk's body? These images captured from the video of his recent visit to the spaceport site in Louisiana.'

The unusual proportions quickly reignited a theory that has appeared online before. Some observers believe Musk's abdomen looks flatter than it did during earlier periods when he was noticeably heavier, while his upper torso now appears to carry more of the visible weight.

The Liposuction Theory Spreads Online

The central theory is based on a claim about how fat distribution can appear after liposuction. One commentator explained the speculation during a podcast discussion by saying, 'I had always heard the rumor it was because he had some form of liposuction or weight loss procedure on his stomach.'

The same commentator suggested that if fat were removed from the abdomen and a person later regained weight, it could appear more prominently elsewhere.

Another statement from the discussion was even more direct: 'I believe this is correct. Musk should have a big belly but since he had liposuction when he gains fat it can't go to his belly anymore so it goes everywhere else.'

The liposuction claim is not the only explanation circulating online. A Reddit discussion about Musk's physique proposed everything from genetics and a so-called barrel chest to rare hormonal conditions. The post itself acknowledged that the ideas were based on curiosity rather than medical evidence.

Musk Has Confirmed Losing Weight

There is, however, a documented history of Musk deliberately changing his weight. In 2022, he said he had lost more than 20 pounds after adopting intermittent fasting and using the Zero app.

His weight-loss comments became more notable in December 2024, when he posted a photograph of himself dressed as Santa and jokingly wrote, 'Ozempic Santa'. Musk later explained that he had tried Ozempic but switched to Mounjaro after experiencing side effects.

For now, Musk's weight-loss journey is documented, while the claim that he removed his 'beer belly' through liposuction remains an unconfirmed theory fuelled by the striking way his body shape appears to have changed.
