Where to watch Live

The kickoff is set for 8pm BST. Live coverage is on ITV 1 and UTV. Radio commentary of the game will be available on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Overview

Two-time winners Uruguay come into the tournament in good form after wins in both their pre-World Cup friendlies. This is Uruguay's first match on Brazilian soil after they beat the hosts 2-1 in the 1950 World Cup final.

However, Oscar Tabarez might be without star striker Luiz Suarez, who has still not recovered from the knee injury he sustained on the final day of the Premier League season.

Meanwhile Costa Rica, who will want to make their own mark in this group will have a tough game on their hands. They have won only one match this calendar year.

Jorge Luis Pinto will hope that his main striker Joel Campbell can replicate some of his club form and help Costa Rica cause the first upset in the 2014 World Cup.

It is the opening game in Group D, which many claim is the Group of Death with England and Italy in it.

What Manager's Say

Oscar Tabarez (Uruguay): "The Costa Ricans are fast and they will try and make life difficult for us. Costa Rica is a major obstacle and we have a lot of respect for them. But our intention is to get the three points."

Jorge Luis Pinto (Costa Rica): "We respect England, Italy and Uruguay. But they should know that we can play football too, we will play without fear. We face three world champions and we can take them all on. What we feel is joy and motivation."
