A top political aide for potential White House hopeful Jeb Bush discredited women on Twitter by branding them "sluts", while he also said he knew actress Lindsay Lohan was about to die.

Old messages on social media by Ethan Czahor have returned to haunt him, after news website Buzzfeed did some digging.

It revealed the Republican politician's new "chief technology officer" posted a string of offensive messages back from 2009.

Bush – who is former President George W Bush's brother – was left red-faced by the misogynistic messages and ordered Czahor to delete them.

Bush is yet to officially declare he intends to run for the president but is expected to join the race. Czahor has been recruited to the team on Bush's Political Action Committee.

Czahor wrote Halloween was when "girls with low self-esteem dress like sluts" as well as "college female art majors are sluts, science majors are also sluts but uglier" and also "I know Lindsey Lohan is supposed to die soon but I'd sure like to sleep with her before that happens", among others.

A spokesman for Bush insisted Czahor was a "great talent". Meanwhile, Czahor complied with his boss's command and claimed he no longer found his jokes funny.

A Bush spokesperson told US media: "Governor Bush believes the comments were inappropriate. They have been deleted at our request.

"Ethan is a great talent in the tech world and we are very excited to have him on board the Right to Rise PAC."
