Where Is Natalie Harp? Donald Trump's 'Human Printer' Aide Misses Key Event With First Lady Melania Trump

President Donald Trump's aide Natalie Harp was not visible in publicly released footage or photographs when Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.

Harp's absence from the ceremony drew attention because she has become a familiar presence around the president.

The attention came as Washingtonian published Harp's complete written responses to a question-and-answer interview on 24 September. The answers were originally emailed to the publication on 18 August.

Washingtonian said White House Communications Director Steven Cheung forwarded the responses and explained that Harp had provided them.

Harp, 35, is described by the publication as a Special and Executive Assistant to the President. In her written responses, she said she completed college in three years and earned an MBA with a 4.0 grade point average.

She described a work ethic shaped by her parents. Harp said she regarded herself as effectively on call for the administration, Congress and the public.

She also said she listens to several chapters of the Bible on audiobook each morning. She prays for 'wisdom and strength' to deal with whatever situations arise.

Harp's answers included language associated with Trump and his political movement. Asked about the most difficult part of her job, she said Washington, DC, does not operate at the speed of 'TRUMP!'

She also said a sense of urgency was lacking in the capital and accused the 'Radical Left' of attempting to slow the president's momentum. Those statements were Harp's own written responses, rather than an independent assessment of the administration.

Harp addressed her age and rapid rise in the administration. 'Age is just a number,' she wrote, adding that years of experience do not necessarily determine how good someone is at a job.

She credited Trump with recognising potential in people regardless of whether they were 'male or female, young or old'. Harp said people would ultimately be remembered for what they accomplished, rather than their age or gender.

Why Was Natalie Harp Not Seen?

Harp was not visible in the publicly released footage of Xi's arrival after weeks of increased attention on her proximity to Trump.

She is frequently photographed accompanying the president and has been reported to assist with his social media operation.

She has also been nicknamed the 'human printer.' The description refers to reports that she supplies Trump with printed news coverage and other material.

On 23 September, Harp was photographed at Joint Base Andrews as Trump returned from the UN General Assembly. Later that day, she was not visible in footage showing Trump and Melania travelling to, and participating in, the welcome ceremony for Xi and Peng.

The available images establish only that Harp was not visible during the public ceremony. They do not establish where she was at that time or why she was not alongside the president. Neither the White House nor Harp has publicly stated why she was not seen during the welcome.

The scrutiny was further fuelled by an image Trump posted on Truth Social after Xi's arrival. The image showed Trump and Xi together, while Melania and Peng were not visible, despite appearing with the two presidents in contemporaneous footage and photographs from the ceremony.

Reports identified the woman visible behind Trump in the posted image as Monica Crowley, the US Chief of Protocol. Crowley has held the position since May 2025 and handled official protocol duties during foreign leaders' visits.

The image Trump posted differs from contemporaneous images of the event. That prompted online questions about whether it had been digitally altered. However, the available evidence does not establish who made any changes, when they were made or why. There is also no evidence that Harp created, commissioned, approved or published the image.

That distinction matters. Harp was initially the subject of online speculation over the identity of the woman shown behind Trump. Available evidence instead identifies the woman as Crowley, while official footage shows Melania and Peng at the ceremony.

For now, the confirmed detail is narrower. Harp was not visible in publicly released footage and photographs of Trump and Melania's 23 September welcome for Xi at Joint Base Andrews. Her whereabouts during that part of the event, and the reason she was not seen, remain unclear.

Her written responses, published by Washingtonian on 24 September and based on answers supplied in August, offer another glimpse into how Harp describes her role, work ethic, and relationship with the administration's political messaging.
