New Beats range
Apple looks set to unveil a new range of iPhone 7-friendly Beats headphones at a media event on 7 September in San Francisco. Reuters

A leaked email from Apple's Beats PR team has all-but-confirmed that the Cupertino giant is prepping a new range of Beats headphones designed for the iPhone 7. The email notes that the new selection will debut at Apple's media event on 7 September in San Francisco.

With almost all rumours and leaks indicating that the 3.5mm headphone jack is on its way out for Apple's latest iOS smartphone, in all likelihood the accompanying Beats by Dre products will feature Lightning support or be entirely wireless. The email, which was obtained by iGeneration.fr, was quickly pulled (presumably at Apple's request), but can be found in full at 9to5Mac.

The information tallies with documents filed with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), where a set of new wireless headphones called AirPods and three pairs of wireless, Beats-branded products are all listed.

While there are already several wireless Bluetooth headphones on the market carrying the Beats name, the current Beats range offers no support for Apple's Lightning connector. Considering the brand is owned by Apple – purchased as part of the Beats Music acquisition in 2014 for $3bn (£2.3bn) – it would be a good bet to suggest that any bundled headphones that come with the iPhone 7 will be joined by similarly designed Beats alternatives as well.

The popular Beats by Dre range has expanded over the years to offer both over-ear and in-ear headphones. The impressive Beats Studio Wireless cans even featured in IBTimes UK's countdown of the top ten Bluetooth headphones.

To find out what Apple and Beats have in store, make sure to look out for Apple's 7 September media event where the iPhone 7 – and possibly even the Apple Watch 2 – is set to be unveiled to world.
