Sony and Insomniac Games have revealed the first gameplay footage for 2016's rebooted Ratchet and Clank title for PS4. The new game is being developed alongside an animated film set for release the same year.

The 1080p 60fps footage shows two four minute portions from the game: a train-top segment and a boss battle from later in the game. As you would expect from Ratchet and Clank a wide variety of ridiculous weaponry is used throughout the demo – including a distracting disco ball.

Visually, the game looks nothing short of incredible. A new trailer was also released including footage from both the game and the movie – and it is hard to tell the difference between the two.

The film features long-time stars of the games James Arnold Taylor and David Kaye as Ratchet and Clank respectively. They are joined by Hollywood talent including Sylvester Stallone, John Goodman, Paul Giamatti and Rosario Dawson.

Directed by Jericca Cleland and Kevin Munroe, the film's script has been written by TJ Fixman, who wrote a number of games in the PlayStation-exclusive series.

Ratchet and Clank will hit cinemas on 29 April 2016 in the US, with the game expected to launch around the same time.
