Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne had already wowed the crowds with the trailer of The Danish Girl but he gained even more attention when he took to the red carpet in a fetching and ultra-festive tartan suit at the film's UK premiere in Leicester Square.
The film sees the British actor take on the challenging role of real life pioneering transgender figure Lili Elbe. Born Einar Magnus Andreas Wegener, she became the first person to undergo gender reassignment surgery in 1931, supported by wife Gerda Wegener, played by Alicia Vikander in the upcoming film directed by Tom Hooper.
However, with Oscar murmurs and performance accolades aside, it was Redmayne's turn in tartan that has got people talking as he eschewed the traditional black tuxedo for a fantastic red tartan suit with black detailing.
This has become a bit of a trend for the Theory of Everything star, as he met the crowds at the Hollywood premiere in an equally eye-catching Gucci tartan number on 21 November, and has often donned a touch of plaid for awards ceremonies.
With the festive season in full swing, there is nothing better than a touch of print of pattern to rework your Christmas party look without having to turn to the obligatory 'fun' festive shirt.
Keep the cut simple and slim with a bright, white shirt and slim tie underneath and you are set for the whole season with a suit that will see you way into 2016.
It might feel like a daunting move but even the faintest plaid or Prince of Wales check can totally revamp a suit and set you apart from the crowd.
The likes E.Tautz, Gucci and Dunhill all have tartan and plaid offerings within their collections, but the high street has plenty of print to go round too.
