Destiny Expansion 2015

The next expansion for Destiny will be called The Taken King and be released on 15 September, according to a leak that reveals it will be larger (and more expensive) than previous expansions The Dark Below and House of Wolves.

Priced at $40 (£26) in the US, the expansion will include new strikes and player vs player (PvP) maps as expected. It will also feature a raid tackling Oryx – a new villain born out of The Hive who is apparently the father of Crota, another villain taken down in The Dark Below's raid.

According to leaked documents obtained by Kotaku, a new sub-class will also be added to each of the three core classes within the game, giving players access to a third elemental. For the Hunter class this is the "gravity bow super [Void]", for the Warlock it is the "electrical storm super [Arc]" and for the Titan it is the "flaming hammer [Solar]".

It has been known for a while that a larger expansion would hit later this year, roughly a year on from the highly successful initial launch of Destiny. Further information is expected from Bungie, who revealed last week that it will be making announcements at E3.

In early June it was revealed that Bungie had registered trademarks relating to something called the Eververse and the Eververse Trading Co – prompting speculation that a trading system is finally heading to Destiny. Players are also hoping for a new planet and hub area in the next expansion.
