Teenage Girl Charged in Connection with Man's Death After He Was Allegedly Pushed From a Moving Chicago Train

A 15-year-old girl has been charged with first-degree murder and other felonies in connection with the death of 29-year-old Kyle T. Bickham. The 29-year-old man died after police said he was pushed from a moving Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Red Line train on 7 September 2026.

According to police, Bickham was reportedly travelling home from work when an altercation broke out aboard the train. At first, investigators thought that the 29-year-old had jumped from the train, but later determined that he had been pushed during the altercation.

Police have since alleged that three people were involved in forcing Bickham from the moving train. The 15-year-old girl, who cannot be publicly named, was arrested on 11 September, four days after the incident. She's the only person publicly reported to have been arrested in connection with Bickham's death.

A Train Ride Home Turned Fatal

Chicago Police have shared that the incident happened at around 2:40 p.m. near the 69th Street station on Chicago's South Side. The victim was allegedly pushed through the train's doors during the confrontation that occurred on board.

He fell onto the tracks, where police said he struck the electrified third rail before being hit by another train. Bickham was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office later identified him and ruled his death a homicide.

The victim's family has shared that Bickham was returning to Lansing after working at an Amazon warehouse in Cicero. He was described by his loved ones as kind, caring, and someone who brought humour to those around him.

His family has also called for witnesses and anyone with information about the other people allegedly involved to come forward.

15-Year-Old Faces Multiple Felony Charges

The teenage suspect faces several felony charges. She is also charged with mob action, two counts of murder during the commission of another forcible felony, and aggravated battery of a transit employee.

A juvenile court judge found probable cause on the charges and ordered the girl to remain in custody following a detention hearing on Saturday.

Police have not announced additional arrests. Investigators believe the girl was one of three people involved in the altercation that ended with Bickham being forced from the train. The circumstances that led to the confrontation, including what prompted the altercation, remain under investigation.

'They Just Took the World From Me'

Reporters have since approached Bickham's family members, who have shared grieving statements over their lost loved one. The victim's father, Christopher Bickham Sr., stated that his son's death was the 'most hurtful' thing that has ever happened. 'They took happiness. They took sunshine. They just took the world from me,' he added during an interview with a local news outlet.

Meanwhile, Bickham's mother, Latanya, expressed how her son was just trying to make an honest living. She also questioned the safety of Chicago's transit system, stating, 'Once you step on that platform, what kind of security do you have?'

A GoFundMe page has since been set up to help with the family's funeral expenses. The latest reports say the fundraiser had raised more than $11,000 (£8,100), although the amount can change as donations come in.
