Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas says he will bide his time before venturing back into the transfer market.

The Portuguese boss has already acquired Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim and Jan Vertonghen from Ajax since being appointed as manager earlier this month.

But will resist from making further purchases in the transfer window before assessing the weak points of his squad.

Villas-Boas will assess his squad before making further additions.

"We have started assessing the squad. We have got a big squad," he said.

"We have had a lot of interest in our players, but I think it is the time to make the right decisions and we use these games to make those decisions.

"I think the team is going in the right direction, but we want to make it stronger. Eventually we will go to the market when we think it is appropriate.

"There will not be a lot of changes, but steadily we will bring in players."

As well as evaluating his squad, Villas-Boas is likely to wait on the future of Luka Modric and Emmanuel Adebayor before deciding on further additions.

Modric has again requested a move away from Spurs following their failure to qualify for the Champions League for a second successive year, while Adebayor is yet to agree a permanent move to White Hart Lane following a successful loan spell last term.

The Togo forward has returned to training with parent club Manchester City, but with Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli ahead in the pecking order, Adebayor's opportunities would be severely affected should he stay with the Premier League champions.

Villas-Boas' saw his transfer policy bear fruit in his opening game as Tottenham manager, as Sigurdsson broke the deadlock against Stevenage to set the club on their way to a first pre-season victory of the summer.

Adam Smith scored Tottenham's second to complete the victory, before the club travel to America to take on LA Galaxy, Premier League rivals Liverpool and New York Red Bulls.

Tottenham begin their Premier League campaign away at Newcastle United as Villas-Boas aims to rebuild his reputation following his disastrous spell at Chelsea.
