At an awards concert in Tucker, Georgia, singer Sky Whatley reached down from the stage and struck Shamika Boyd in the head while she watched her daughter DJ Jada Boyd perform. The blow carried over the music and left her with…
The reason for the alleged slap remains unclear. Boyd said she could not understand why Whatley had hit her, adding that she had not threatened him or placed him in danger.
'When he hit me, I was devastated,' Boyd told 11Alive.
Boyd also said Whatley allegedly flipped her off after the incident and told her, 'Eff you B, this is for the real men.'
According to the report, Boyd ended up with two black eyes, while composite material from one of her teeth reportedly fell off after the alleged blow.
What Happened With the David 'Sky' Whatley Arrest Warrant?
The alleged incident took place on 6 September, but police did not issue an arrest warrant until 28 September.
As of 2 October, no arrest had been made. Boyd's attorney, Shannin Render, said she had been told Whatley would turn himself in.
Render criticised the handling of the case and questioned why an active warrant had not resulted in an immediate arrest.
She also said she had been told authorities were going to allow Whatley to turn himself in rather than immediately taking him into custody.
Boyd said she felt her case was not receiving the same level of importance as other cases.
Why David 'Sky' Whatley's Battery Charge Is Being Questioned
The battery charge has also been questioned by an attorney representing Boyd.
Attorney Atiya Vereen argued that the reported injuries could warrant an aggravated battery charge because they involved alleged bodily injury.
That, however, is an attorney's assessment rather than a court finding. The report does not state that prosecutors have upgraded the charge.
It was also unclear whether Whatley was aware of the arrest warrant when the report was published on 5 October. The publication reported that footage of the alleged incident had circulated online following the concert.
The allegations against David 'Sky' Whatley Jr. have not been established in court, and the case remains subject to legal proceedings.
