Aliona Vilani and Jay McGuiness won the glitter ball trophy as they are crowned Strictly champions BBC

Jay McGuiness has been crowned the winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2015. The Wanted singer and dance partner Aliona Vilani brought home the coveted glitter ball trophy after a sensational dance-off with fellow celebrities Kellie Bright and Georgia May Foote on Saturday night's final.

The 25-year-old was stunned on hearing his name announced. "I feel spaced out and really weird," he said, fighting back tears. Acknowledging Aliona, he added: "You deserve it so much. I just think it was one of the most special things I've ever done with the most special person. Anyone who watched us and helped us get here ... Thank you."

McGuiness had made a flourishing entry into the competition which kicked off in September, winning over the judges with dramatic performances. However, as the competition hotted up, he found himself at the bottom of the leader board at the end of his final three performances of the night, with Georgia taking the second spot and Kellie sitting pretty on top.

While the judges lavished praise on all the finalists the singer impressed them with his Quickstep dancing to the tune of The Who's 1965 hit My Generation.

Craig Revel-Horwood said: "I think you did dance around the floor with ease, your bum was down through the whole thing. You are a lovely dancer to watch"'. Darcey added: "For me... Top grade in complexity... I have to say it was divine, you were in charge. Even with the tiny mistakes you were fantastic."

And while they didn't win Georgie and Kellie made a strong impression on the judges with Craig tipping her for West End success following her Chicago-themed Charleston. "'You have been extraordinary," he said. "I think one of the biggest journeys of the performance... I'd be proud to put you in any of my West End shows."

Kellie and Kevin recreated their Star Wars themed dance prompting high praise from Craig again who called the Eastenders actress "one of the most exciting performers" on the show after she scored four perfect tens for her tango. The EastEnders star said the show was one of the best things she had ever done in her life.

Guest singer Ellie Goulding was trending on Twitter after her rendition of her hit song Love Me Like You Do from the 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack. Wearing a fishnet and sequinned dress she was surrounded by professional dancers for the sultry performance.

All the former contestants returned to the stage for the last time in a show-stopping ensemble performance. And while Georgia and Kellie had danced for their lives, in the end the public backed boy band star Jay who won the trophy and everyone hearts.
