Jelly Roll is going to make headlines once again this week, not for his music, but for a shocking chokeslam that took place not in a wrestling ring, but on the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live!. As the Grammy-nominated country artist gets ready for his wrestling debut at WWE SummerSlam, he brought the action to late-night television by slamming social media influencer and part-time wrestler Logan Paul through Kimmel's talk show desk.

The stunt, staged during Jelly Roll's guest-hosting spot on Wednesday night's episode, was part of a kayfabe storyline ahead of his official in-ring tag-team debut. The 40-year-old musician is set to team up with veteran WWE legend Randy Orton in a high-profile bout against Paul and Drew McIntyre next month.

Chaos on Kimmel

The Kimmel appearance started with laughs but ended in mayhem. While interviewing Orton and discussing recent WWE events, Jelly Roll was interrupted by McIntyre, who tackled Orton off set. Paul then emerged and slapped Jelly, handing him a "receipt" for an earlier incident during Saturday Night's Main Event. In response, Jelly Roll chokeslammed Paul through the talk show desk in front of a live studio audience.

The sequence was a preview of the energy fans can expect at SummerSlam. This is where the tag-team match is already one of the most talked-about events on the WWE SummerSlam 2025 card.

Training with Wrestling Royalty

Jelly Roll's rapid transformation from country star to WWE competitor is not being taken lightly. In preparation for his debut, he has been training extensively at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. His mentors include wrestling legends like The Undertaker, Kevin Owens, Jacob Fatu and coach Matt Bloom.

'They see that I'm trying to take it as seriously as I can', Jelly Roll said during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show, referring to the hours of feedback he received from Undertaker and Michelle McCool.

The singer also joked about his physical attributes aiding him in wrestling. 'As a fat guy, I've broken several folding chairs', he told the Kimmel crowd. But he also added that facing adversity in life made this a pretty big moment for him, one he doesn't take for granted.

Music Star Turned Wrestling Newcomer

The path to the ring began earlier this month when Paul confronted Jelly Roll during a musical performance at WWE SmackDown in Nashville. Paul accused the singer of being an outsider trying to exploit the wrestling world for fame. The confrontation escalated when Orton stepped in to defend Jelly Roll, setting the stage for the upcoming SummerSlam match.

Following the altercation, Jelly Roll confirmed he had agreed to join WWE for the tag team bout. 'Every American dreams of slapping Logan Paul in the face', he joked.

In addition to the Kimmel brawl, WWE has confirmed that Jelly Roll will appear on upcoming SmackDown shows in Cleveland and Newark to continue building momentum ahead of SummerSlam on August 2 and 3.

What Comes Next?

Jelly Roll's crossover into sports entertainment comes at a time when WWE is embracing celebrity involvement. But unlike many short-term appearances, Jelly's commitment appears long-term, with intense training and multiple appearances lined up.

With the viral desk slam behind him, all eyes are now on SummerSlam. As Jelly Roll continues to blur the lines between music, television and wrestling, his debut with Randy Orton against Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre is set to be one of the most anticipated matches of the summer.
