The latter part of the year 2011 witnessed a fierce battle between Apple and Samsung to secure the lion's share of the smartphone market for their iPhone 4S and Galaxy S2 respectively. It looks like this year is not going to be any different for both, as Samsung is expected to extend their flagship version of Galaxy S2 to Galaxy S3 while Apple is expected to draw out iPhone 5 out of their weaponry.

Samsung has already drawn a bigger margin with its latest Android flagship collaboration with Google, the Galaxy Nexus. Meanwhile, speculations are abuzz with the announcement of Samsung Galaxy S3 to take place during Mobile World Congress Feb 28.

Here is a comparison between Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 4S.

Display: Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to spot 4.6-inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen 319 ppi pixel density compared to iPhone 4S which comes with 3.5-inch 640 x 960 pixels LED-backlit IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen.

Input Features: The input features which might accompany Galaxy S3 include touch-sensitive controls, Corning Gorilla Glass, TouchWiz UI v4.0 or Touchwiz 5.0, accelerometer, gyro and proximity sensor. And iPhone 4S features like scratch-resistant glass, oleophobic coating, accelerometer, gyro and proximity sensor.

Memory: Samsung Galaxy S3 will have 16GB/32GB storage and 2 GB RAM memory compared to iPhone 4S, which has 16/32/64 GB storage and 512 MB RAM. However, Galaxy S3 will have up to 32 GB microSD support. Galaxy S2 versions have only 1 GB RAM storage.

WLAN/Bluetooth/USB: Apple iPhone 4S has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.0 with A2DP support along with USB version 2.0. However, Samsung Galaxy S3 will have Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 3.0+HS along with microUSB MHL version 2.0 support.

Camera: Samsung Galaxy S3 may feature a 12 megapixel 4000x3000 pixels camera along with features like autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilization features. And 1080p video recording is expected along with a 2 megapixel secondary camera.

While iPhone 4S comes with an 8 megapixel 3264x2448 pixels camera with features like autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection and HDR. And it can record video at 1080p and a secondary VGA camera.

Processor: When it comes to processor, Samsung Galaxy S3 may feature a quad-core/dual-core, Exynos 4212/ Exyos 5250, 2 GHz/ 1.8 GHz processor. As the name quad-core suggests, the processor has four cores over two but not in exile. Chip manufacturer Qualcomm has confirmed the availability of quad-core processors.

However, iPhone 4S has Apple A5 dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor powering it.

Operating System: With Samsung Galaxy Nexus already featuring the Android 4.0 or the Ice Cream Sandwich, Galaxy S3 is expected to be embedded with same operating system which has given a hard time for iPhone 4S iOS 5 version.

Battery: According to rumors and leaked resources, Galaxy S3 is expected to feature a 2250mAh battery which is better than iPhone 4S's Li-Po 1432 mAh battery.

Other features: And optional NFC support is expected to come along with Galaxy S3, which is not found in iPhone 4S. Other rumors related to Galaxy S3 point that the phone will have 5 touch-sensitive keys on the bottom, which probably could be for Phone, Menu, Apps, Back and Search. And the new phone will support 4G LTE.
