Andre Villas-Boas has said that Tottenham Hotspur will not make any major signings during the January transfer window.

Previously, there had been widespread speculation that Spurs would go on a spending spree in January, with a host of players, ranging from Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente and Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen to Blackpool winger Thomas Ince, linked with a move to White Hart Lane. However, the Portuguese tactician has dismissed these claims and insisted the club will not be among the big movers in this window.

"You won't see Tottenham doing anything in the beginning of January, if we do anything. Buying players early in the window makes a difference to the preparation in pre-season but, during the season, it doesn't have the same effect. I think we are comfortable with how things are," AVB told Sky Sports.

The manager also said club chairman Daniel Levy and he were confident the north London outfit had a strong enough squad to cope with the rest of the season. The former Chelsea boss also pointed out the return of injured players would provide a boost to his squad.

"[Levy and I] spoke about the January situation and the eventuality that we could look to strengthen the squad to be better. What came out of those conversations was that our level of focus is not to do a lot in January," Villas-Boas stressed.

"We feel comfortable at the moment. Our squad will become big even in terms of numbers with the return of injured players. I believe that they will give us an extra edge. I am not ruling out any situation in the market, but at the moment it looks unlikely," he concluded.

However, Villas-Boas admitted departures were likely at Spurs during this window and revealed goalkeepers Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes were available, with Hugo Lloris and Brad Friedel being his preferred options.

Tottenham are fourth in the Premier League, with 29 points from 17 games. Spurs occupy the final Champions League position, for now, with a two-point lead over local rivals Arsenal. And AVB hosts Stoke City this weekend, with Tony Pulis' men on a hugely impressive seven-match unbeaten run.
