Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers’ former relationship is back in the spotlight after the NFL star made new claims about their failed engagement Shailene Woodley/Instagram

Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers' former relationship has been thrust back into the spotlight after the NFL star made an explosive allegation about what happened shortly after he proposed to the actress, offering a sharply different version of events surrounding their failed engagement.

Rodgers, 42, claimed during an appearance on Pittsburgh Steelers teammate Cam Heyward's Not Just Football podcast on Thursday that Woodley told him just days after accepting his marriage proposal that she wanted to sleep with another man before they married.

Rodgers Makes Explosive Woodley Claim

'I date Shailene, I propose and she says yes,' Rodgers said. He acknowledged that Woodley may have felt pressured to make a decision, before alleging that she told him days later: 'Before we get married, I got to go f*** this guy.'

The quarterback did not identify the man she was referring to, and there is no independent evidence establishing that the alleged conversation occurred.

Woodley, 34, has not publicly responded to Rodgers' latest allegations. Her representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment from multiple publications following the podcast interview.

Woodley and Rodgers' Engagement Timeline

Rodgers also offered his version of the timeline surrounding their engagement, claiming he proposed in December and Woodley had removed her engagement ring by March.

The pair publicly confirmed their engagement in February 2021, although Rodgers' latest account indicates the proposal had happened months earlier. Their relationship had begun in 2020 and eventually ended publicly in 2022.

Rodgers claimed there were attempts to repair the relationship but said they failed to reunite.

'There wasn't even a relationship in '22 to break off,' he said, claiming Woodley had previously told him: 'I don't want to be with you.'

Rodgers Challenges Narrative Around Woodley Split

Rodgers used the interview to dispute what he described as inaccurate narratives surrounding the Shailene Woodley breakup.

However, Woodley has not publicly said that Rodgers 'ruined her life,' as he characterised her position during the podcast. Her previous comments have instead described the relationship and a difficult period in her life without explicitly blaming Rodgers for her mental health struggles.

In a 2024 interview with Outside, Woodley said discussing her relationship with Rodgers still made her cry, describing it as both 'not right' and 'beautiful.' She also spoke about experiencing an 'awful, traumatic' event in early 2022, without explicitly identifying the event as their breakup.

Woodley said she went through a period in which she felt she had lost her sense of self, happiness and joy, and came to understand depression and anxiety. She also referred to having remained in what she called a 'toxic situation,' but did not publicly provide specific details tying that description directly to Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers Has Since Married Brittani

Rodgers has since moved on and married a woman named Brittani, whom he said he first met in 2017.

The Steelers quarterback revealed that the pair later reconnected and eloped. Rodgers said one of his biggest regrets was not proposing to Brittani when they first met before she returned to Europe.

His latest remarks mark one of his most detailed public accounts yet of his failed engagement to Woodley, several years after their high-profile relationship ended.
