Tom Cleverley's impressive early season form has earned him a new four-year contract at Manchester United worth £40,000-a-week.

The new deal was announced Monday morning and will keep the midfielder at Old Trafford until 2015.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson praised the English midfielder as "one of the brightest prospects in the game," following his outstanding start to the season.

The 22-year-old's improved contract will see him earn as much as fellow England internationals Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

"For a young boy, he has a good footballing brain which, when coupled with his energy and ability, makes for a player with a fine future ahead of him," Ferguson said.

"It's the United way to encourage our young players to make their mark in the first team and Tom has grabbed that chance with both hands."
