Mary Trump claims her uncle, President Donald Trump, welcomes Natalie Harp's intense attention because he is not getting the attention he needs from others.

The president's niece, who holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, made the comments during an episode of The Daily Beast Podcast hosted by Joanna Coles. Mary said the 35-year-old White House aide has 'the qualities of a stalker' and argued that Trump welcomes the attention rather than rejecting it.

Mary Trump Says Harp Fills a Role for the President

Mary also argued that her uncle's relationships, including those with his children, are based on what each person gets from the other. 'Every single relationship Donald has is transactional,' she said.

Mary then connected her view of Trump's relationships to Harp's apparent devotion, saying the aide appears willing to give him the attention he wants. 'It's the only case I've ever seen in which the stalking victim has welcomed being stalked,' she said.

'Donald is not getting the attention he needs, because nobody cares about him—which makes sense because he doesn't care about anybody,' she added. She argued Harp was 'willing to fill that role.' She also described Harp as 'a different type entirely' and said, 'I think there's something psychologically wrong with her. She needs help. She has the qualities of a stalker.'

Coles also raised Trump's reported comment that Harp 'would never leave' him while others would eventually move on. Coles wondered if it reflected a fear of abandonment, drawing a parallel with Trump's reported treatment of his father, Fred Trump, after his Alzheimer's diagnosis.

Mary Questions Trump's Close Association With Harp

Mary called the dynamic 'inappropriate' and 'wrong,' adding, 'I think he's taking advantage. But nobody seems to have a problem with it.'

She suggested that the situation might receive greater public scrutiny if the president were a Democrat, arguing that similar proximity between an older Democratic president and a much younger female aide would likely prompt questions about their relationship and the amount of time they spend together. 'If an 81-year-old Democratic president was hanging out with a 35-year-old woman and spending more time with her than he did with anybody else in his family, I'm pretty sure there would be a problem,' she said.

The US president's close proximity to Harp has drawn increased attention. She was among a small group of aides who accompanied Trump on a military aircraft after he secretly switched planes in Turkey in July amid an alleged Iranian assassination threat. A September Daily Mail/JL Partners poll found that 42% of Americans believed more questions needed to be answered about her role in the Trump administration.

She Also Takes Aim at Laura Loomer

In the podcast, Coles also asked Mary Trump about far-right activist Laura Loomer, who has travelled with Trump and has been associated with Natalie Harp. 'I think she's just very skilled at inserting herself. I find her vile,' Mary said of Loomer.

She added that, in her view, women who want to remain close to her uncle must meet another requirement. 'If you're a woman who wants to stay in Donald's good graces, you have to be subservient,' she said.

Mary's remarks are her personal interpretation of Trump's relationships and Harp's behaviour, rather than independently established findings about either person's private motivations.

While the remarks of Donald Trump's niece reflect her own interpretation of those dynamics, Harp's prominent role alongside the president has continued to attract public and media attention, particularly because of her frequent presence with Trump and her close working access to him.
