The 98thannual White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner party was a star-studded affair as political honchos, Hollywood, TV personalities and journalists came together to attend one of the most anticipated events of the year held on 29 April.

The dinner is hosted by the WHCA to honour professional recipients of the association's journalism awards and also to raise money for scholarships given to promising journalism students to play an important role in the association's mission.

Stars including George Clooney, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, Charlize Theron, Daniel Radcliff, Dakota Fanning, Sofia Vergara and Steven Spielberg attended the event with President Barack Obama, other political honchos and journalists.

Actress Kate Hudson graced the red carpet looking stunning in a glittering purple sequin Jenny Packham gown, while Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks looked gorgeous in an Antonio Berardi peplum gown. Twilight star Dakota Fanning dazzled in a silvery floating Prada gown and matching bow heels.

Kim Kardashian accompanied mother Kris Jenner for the party in a high-necked floor length green velvet gown with white lace sequinned belt and shoulder panels.

Actor Reese Witherspoon glowed in a floor length black Monique Lhuillier gown covering up her growing baby bump. Troubled star Lindsay Lohan wore a long black dress. Sofia Vergara sported a shorter black skirt teamed with belt and Louboutin heels.

While Eva Longaria looked beautiful in a short cream frock, Oscar nominee Viola Davis hit the red carpet in an Amsale dress with husband Julius Tennon.

Actor George Clooney was spotted without his girlfriend Stacey Keibler. In fact Stacey had tweeted last week that she was getting fitted for her dress for the party.

Where was she? "She couldn't make it. She's working," Clooney told POLITICO. He explained that Keibler got a pilot for a television show.

The event was hosted by popular TV personality and comedian Jimmy Kimmel.
