The current-gen Asus Zenfone 5 smartphone Asus

Asus Zenfones that are generally branded in the successful low-cost smartphones range are now set to witness a successor in the form of another Zenfone range called Zenfones 2.

According to a report published in Focus Taiwan, the entire Asus Zenfones 2 range of smartphones is likely to be launched during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that is scheduled to take place in January 2015.

However, Asus' Zenfones 2 smartphones might not exactly be 'low-cost', as prices of these devices are expected to begin from 4,990 New Taiwanese Dollars ($163, £106, INR10032), and go up to 9,990 New Taiwanese Dollars (roughly $326, £209, INR20080).

The above prices seem to be beyond affordable, considering the fact that the earlier Zenfones had a starting price of approximately £100 (INR6,000).

The expected increase in price, in Zenfones 2 could be due to Asus selecting a second chip maker, to supply processors for the yet-to-be-released Zenfones 2 range of smartphones.

The Taiwan-based company which currently has bases in 14 markets across the world, is said to be focussing on expanding to 20 countries.

As of now, the technical specifications of Asus' Zenfones 2 smartphone range are yet to surface, but these devices are expected to support 4G-LTE when officially launched.

The key hardware aspects of Asus Zenfones 2 are expected to be more advanced, in comparison to the current-gen Zenfones.
