The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) announced its winners of 2012. Johnny Depp was named fashion icon of the year. This is the first time that a man is being named fashion icon.

"There's something that's authentic about Johnny, and you can see it in his eyes. He's nice and naughty," Diane von Furstenberg, CFCA president, told People.com.

Twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen won the country's top women's wear designers for their collection called The Row.

"I'd like to thank you - you," Mary-Kate said.

According to New York Daily News, there were some interesting accessories that were brought to the event. J Crew creative director Jenna Lyons walked down the red carpet with Solange Knowles, Vogue editor Anna Wintour sporting her signature shades, and former kid star turned fashion maven Mary Kate Olsen, now a brunette, smoking a cigarette.

The twin sisters Kate and Olsen arrived in their own collections, The Row. Kate Bosworth, arrived in a Joseph Altuzarra frock while Victoria's Secret angel Candice Swanepoel wore a floral blue cut-out dress. Anna Wintour wore a Marc Jacobs frock. Dakota Fanning stood apart in her short Asian-inspired Proenza Schouler gown paired with black booties. Zoe Saldana was another celebrity who looked stunning in her Prabal Gurung design, according to the Daily Mail.

A few celebrities tried the plunging neckline statement. Busy Phillips wore a black outfit with a low neck line. She teamed it with black heels. Joan Smalls wore a Michael Kors gown, with a low neck.Selita Ebanks wore a white floor-sweeping Herve Leger by Max Azria gown and looked like a princess in it.
