DiscussingFish, the X parody account known for inventing entertainment scoops that were sometimes mistaken for real announcements, has been suspended, with its administrator sharing a farewell video after the account disappeared.

The administrator, known online as lake (@LKSGNA), said they did not know exactly why X suspended the account but believed one of its posts may have justified the action.

The suspension came on Tuesday, 25 August, after DiscussingFish had grown to about 70,000 followers.

DiscussingFish Suspended From X

DiscussingFish was created as a parody of entertainment news account DiscussingFilm, adopting a similar name, logo and posting style. Its bio described it as a 'parody satire fake news page', while its posts mocked film and television scoops with fabricated casting announcements and other satirical claims.

The account joined X in May 2023 and had grown from 2,000 followers in October 2025 to roughly 70,000 by the time it was suspended on Tuesday. Its deliberately misleading posts were nevertheless sometimes mistaken for genuine entertainment news.

One notable example came in November 2025, when DiscussingFish published a fabricated quote attributed to Wicked director Jon M. Chu.

Chu reportedly responded by calling the post 'clickbait', illustrating how the account's satire could circulate alongside legitimate entertainment reporting.

X has not publicly identified the specific post or rule that led to the suspension, nor confirmed whether the action is permanent.

The platform does permit parody, commentary and fan accounts, but its authenticity policy sets requirements intended to make their lack of affiliation clear.

These include using a PCF label, avoiding an identical avatar to the entity being depicted, and including terms such as 'parody', 'fake', 'fan' or 'commentary' in the account name and bio.

It is therefore unclear whether any of those requirements were a factor in DiscussingFish's suspension. The account's administrator said they were also still trying to determine what prompted the action.

Admin Shares Memorial Video of the Account

After DiscussingFish disappeared from X, the admin used a personal account to confirm they had run the parody page and address its suspension.

'Hello, I was the admin of DiscussingFish. I don't know exactly why I was suspended and am currently trying to figure out why, but I'm sure one of my posts justified it,' the admin wrote.

They later posted 'rest in peace' alongside a roughly one-minute video revisiting some of the account's fabricated entertainment announcements, marking what appeared to be a farewell to the page.

Lake also indicated they were not planning to make an extensive effort to have the account reinstated, saying in a reply that they did not plan to try 'super hard' to recover it and would be content whether it returned or remained suspended.

Fans React to the Suspension

The suspension prompted an outpouring of tributes, jokes and memes from X users who had followed the account's deliberately misleading scoops.

Some users treated the disappearance as the end of a familiar piece of X culture, while others used mock news-style posts to announce the account's 'death'.

Supporters also revealed their own involvement in its content, with one user saying they had helped write two posts and create logos for the parody account.

Another contributor wrote that 'there was a DiscussingFish in all of us', reflecting how the account had developed a wider community around its jokes.

The reaction underscored the unusual role DiscussingFish had occupied on X: a parody account whose success depended partly on making fabricated entertainment news look convincing, even as its profile explicitly identified the content as satire.
