Android 4.1.1 XXDLI8 firmware is released for Galaxy S3. Sitesgadget

An Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) firmware - XXDLI8 (Jelly Bean) - for the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 - has been leaked. This file was for a beta tester for the official update.

Users looking to update may follow instructions given. However, IBTimes UK warns its readers it will not be held responsible for damage to device during installation. Users are advised to back-up all important data before proceeding, ensure device is factory unlocked and the battery carries at least 80 percent charge. In addition, also ensure appropriate USB drivers are installed and enable USB debugging mode. This file works only with the international version of the Galaxy S3.

Steps to Install Android 4.1.1 XXDLI8 for Galaxy S3

  • Download Android 4.1.1 XXDLI8 firmware
  • Download Odin v1.85
  • Turn Galaxy S3 off and place device in Download Mode (to do so press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons until a construction Android robot and triangle appears and then press Power)
  • Start Odin and connect device, while in Download Mode, to PC using USB cable
  • In Odin, select these files in the order mentioned
    • Click on PDA and select Code
    • Click on PHONE and select Modem
    • Click on CSC and select CSC
    • Click on PIT and select .pit
    • Note: Ignore last three steps if such files are not found
  • Click Start to begin installation via Odin
  • After installation the device will restart. You may unplug device when Home screen appears. Now turn device off again
  • Restart in Recover Mode (turn device on by pressing Volume Up, Home and Power button)
  • In main Recovery menu select Wipe Data/Factory Reset to perform data wipe
  • Now select Reboot System to boot into new firmware

Congratulations... the Galaxy S3 is now running Android 4.1.1 XXDLI8. You can verify software version by browsing to Settings > About Phone.

You can also root Android 4.1.1 XXDLI8 firmware on the Galaxy S3. To do so, follow tutorial below. Remember there is no need to install ClockworkMod Recovery for this procedure; it can be done via Odin.

To Root Android 4.1.1 XXDLI8 on Galaxy S3

  • Install CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.zip for Galaxy S3
  • Turn Galaxy S3 off and place device in Download Mode (to do so press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons until a construction Android robot and triangle appears and then press Power)
  • Start Odin and connect device, while in Download Mode, to PC using USB cable
  • In Odin click on PDA and select file CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar
  • Click Start to begin installation via Odin
  • After installation the device will restart. You may unplug device when Home screen appears

Android 4.1.1 XXDLI8 is now rooted to Galaxy S3. You can verify with Root Checker.
