Jeff Webb, widely recognised as an early mentor to conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has died at the age of 76 after sustaining a severe head injury during a pickleball game. His sudden passing has sparked a difficult question: could the businessman and sport innovator have survived the freak accident that ultimately claimed his life?

What Really Happened To Jeff Webb?

Two weeks before his death, Webb was playing pickleball, a fast-growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. Although the details about the incident were not disclosed, it was reported that Webb had suffered critical trauma when he fell on his head. He was quickly hospitalised and placed on life support before his family made the difficult decision to take him off life support on 19 March 2026.

Could Jeff Webb Had Survived the Freak Accident?

While the extent of Webb's injury was not revealed, there are several factors to consider. The founder of Varsity Spirit may have been strong and healthy despite his age, but even a small fall that results in a blow to the head can be more severe for older adults. It is reported that adults over the age of 70 are more likely to suffer from a fall by 45%.

Webb's passing has drawn particular attention due to his influence on Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who was himself killed in 2025. Webb had been described as a key figure in Kirk's early rise, meeting him when the young activist was in his twenties and helping shape his leadership trajectory. Sadly, the two would pass away within months of each other.

Supporters Celebrate Jeff Webb and His Lasting Contributions

In statements released following Webb's death, Turning Point USA referred to him as a 'visionary' and 'a dear friend', underscoring his lasting impact on the organisation and its mission.

A spokesperson for Varsity Brands released a statement, which celebrated Webb's lasting contributions.

'Varsity Brands is saddened by the passing of Jeff Webb, founder of Varsity Spirit and modern cheerleading,' the statement read.

'Jeff played a pivotal role in shaping cheerleading as it exists today and in building a community that has impacted generations of athletes, coaches, and teams,' it continued. 'In recent years, his contributions helped grow the sport both in the United States and globally, including his work with the International Cheer Union, which achieved full recognition by the International Olympic Committee in 2021.'

The statement concluded, 'We extend our condolences to Jeff's family and loved ones, and to the many across the spirit community who were influenced by his work.'

Tributes to Webb have poured in from both the cheerleading community and conservative organisations, many emphasising his role as a mentor and innovator. Turning Point USA released a video tribute honouring his contributions to youth leadershipand describing him as someone who helped shape 'generations of young leaders'.

Webb is survived by his family, including his wife, children and grandchildren. His death marks the loss of a figure whose influence spanned sports, business and politics, leaving behind a legacy that supporters say will continue to resonate for years to come.
