Trump Executive Assistant Natalie Harp's Brother Alleges She Found a New Father Figure in Donald Trump
Natalie Harp's brother believes Trump became a new father figure after a family rift, as a personal letter and White House response draw attention

President Donald Trump was described as a 'Guardian and Protector' and a father figure by his close aide Natalie Harp in a private 2023 letter, her estranged brother has claimed, linking her words to a bitter rift that followed their father's death in California.
Natalie Harp's estranged brother, Preston Harp, believes President Donald Trump became a father figure to the White House aide. He linked that view to a family rift in California in an interview published by The Washington Post on Sunday, 11 October.
Natalie, who works closely with Trump, has not publicly confirmed her brother's interpretation. A 2023 letter offers her own words, not an explanation of her motives.
In the letter, authenticated by The Post, she referred to 'the pain of losing my Dad' and thanked Trump for being her 'Guardian and Protector in this Life.' She was describing Trump.
Family Rift and Political Divide Behind the Scenes
Preston recalled being close to Natalie as children. Their mother, Jill, home-schooled them, but political and personal differences later strained their relationship. Their father's death brought those tensions to a head.
On 17 July 2020, Natalie called Preston and urged him to come to their family home in Irvine, California. Their father, Robert G. 'Bob' Harp Jr, had died aged 61.
The Post reported that Bob died by suicide, citing an autopsy report Preston supplied. His published obituary confirms the date and his role at Biola University's business school, but does not give a cause of death.
Preston had visited days earlier to repay a loan. Coronavirus precautions meant he remained in his car. Preston recalled Bob telling him, 'Listen, I'm not doing okay.'
Preston alleged that Natalie and Jill preferred to tell relatives Bob had died in his sleep. He refused to give that explanation, saying he would share what police had told him. Neither woman responded to The Post's requests for comment.
He said the dispute divided relatives and ended contact with Natalie. Preston also recalled that Bob 'was not a fan' of Trump, although Natalie's political involvement was already well established.
On 24 August 2020, Natalie addressed the Republican National Convention remotely from Washington, DC. She credited Trump with helping save her life after treatment for bone cancer, linking her recovery to his Right to Try legislation.
Medical experts have questioned that connection. The treatment she described involved a drug already approved for other uses, which would not qualify under the legislation. The concerns relate to her explanation of treatment access, not the fact that she experienced serious illness.
Why Her Brother Sees Trump as a Father Figure
Natalie later worked for One America News before entering Trump's political circle and joining his White House staff. A July 2026 personnel report identifies her as special assistant to the president and executive assistant to the president.
Nicknamed the 'human printer,' she frequently supplies Trump with documents and messages. Her proximity to the president places her work in the public spotlight.
In an 18 August interview with CNN's Erin Burnett, Preston described his sister's devotion as 'an unhealthy obsession.' That was a personal judgement, not a clinical finding. He now lives in Nicaragua, where his political commitments stand in sharp contrast to Natalie's.

The Post reported that the White House did not contest Preston's account of the estrangement, but declined to arrange an interview with Natalie or issue a statement on her behalf. That was not an endorsement of his interpretation.
Katie Miller, wife of White House adviser Stephen Miller, criticised the reporting on X as 'one-sided' and 'gross.' She argued that Natalie avoids interviews and that a private family tragedy should not be used to explain her professional loyalty.
Natalie remained publicly visible on 5 October, when Trump called her onstage during a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, to bring him an executive order. He likened her to a model on The Price Is Right.
Her access to the president makes her role a matter of public interest. Preston's account supplies family context, but does not prove that bereavement shaped her political choices.
Natalie's letter documents gratitude towards Trump. Whether she regards him as the father figure Preston describes remains a question only she can answer.
