Katie Price's ex-hubby, Alex Reid, is considering moving from showbiz to politics because he believes his celebrity status would help him influence young people.

The 36-year-old cross-dressing cage-fighter said he would make the ideal MP because children would look up to him.

The former Celebrity Big Brother winner, who is now engaged to fellow reality star Chantelle Houghton, 28, made the comments at the launch of the Let's Do Lunch healthy eating campaign with shadow education minister Sharon Hodgson.

Reid told the Sun: "It would be lovely to be an MP. I believe I can use my power as a celebrity to influence young people to help them be the people they want to be and to have a better Britain."

He said his ambitions may reach as far as No 10 and becoming the next prime minister.

He explained that he would be successful in such a tough role as "someone who can get the points across that people want and can understand without jargon".

Reid, who is touring the UK in Wildboyz, a show about male strippers, also said that being PM would be easy compared to his cage-fighting.

The father-to-be said: "When you've fought an athlete trying to rip your head off, standing up against someone just trying to verbally discredit you won't be a problem."
