Fallout 4 has won the Best Game at the Bafta Game Awards 2016, beating pre-show favourites Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to win the big award of the night.

The unexpected victory for Bethesda marks the first win for its post-apocalyptic RPG series which has previously been nominated six times. IBTimes UK offered a slightly different view on the wastelands of the Commonwealth, concluding that it "feels like a step in the wrong direction" in our review.

Also nominated for the Best Music award at the event held in London's Tobacco Docks on 7 April, the team behind the hugely successful PS4, Xbox One and PC hit had to make do with just the top prize after it was beaten to the punch by the musical chops of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Despite missing out on the most prestigious award, The Chinese Room's PS4 first-person adventure game managed to win in the Audio Achievement, Performer and Music categories. Previously exclusive to the PS4, the Brighton-based developer recently revealed via Twitter that the game set in an abandoned English village will be coming to PC at some point in the near future.

Elsewhere 2015's surprise indie PC hit Her Story picked up three of the coveted golden statues for Debut Game, Game Innovation and Mobile and Handheld, while Rocket League converted its reign of dominance from the car-meets-football fields to grab Family Game, Multiplayer and Sport.
