Is Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man Returning in 'Avengers: Doomsday'? The Fake Video That Fooled Fans
It's said that Robert Downey Jr.'s Victor Von Doom will wear his mask for most of 'Avengers: Doomsday'

Marvel fans were sent into a frenzy this week after a viral video claiming to show Iron Man's return in Avengers: Doomsday began circulating on X and TikTok.
The clip, which features Marvel logos, dramatic crowd reactions and on-screen text suggesting Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark will appear in the upcoming blockbuster, quickly racked up more than a million views. Hashtags including #AvengersDoomsday trended as viewers rushed to share the footage.
For a brief moment, hope surged. Could Iron Man really be coming back after his emotional sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame?
The answer: probably not.
The 'Return' Video That Fooled Millions
The now-viral video appears to be an AI-generated stitch of crowd shots and stylised graphics on a screen with the text: 'Ironman will return in Avengers: Doomsday.'

Closer inspection reveals several red flags. The logo does not match Marvel's usual branding. The audience reactions look digitally enhanced and over exaggerated.
Still, many viewers were initially convinced.
One comment read: 'This is AI my gosh yall get so fooled easily.'
Another wrote: 'This is obvious AI and yet, over 1M views.'
Others were more emotional. 'I say this as someone who had a full breakdown when Tony died... LET HIM REST,' one fan posted.
Despite the scepticism, the video continued to spread, highlighting how quickly misinformation — even harmless fan edits — can gain traction online.

What Has Marvel Actually Confirmed?
While Iron Man's return remains unlikely, Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — just not as Tony Stark.
At San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, Marvel officially announced that Downey Jr. would be playing villain Doctor Victor Von Doom.
The reveal triggered huge cheers from the crowd and was seen as Marvel's attempt to inject fresh energy into the franchise after several uneven box office performances.
Speaking at the time, studio executives described Downey Jr. as 'the one person who could play' the role.
Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo brothers, is scheduled for release on 18 December 2026, with Secret Wars following in 2027.
So far, Marvel has made no announcement suggesting that Tony Stark will be resurrected.
Why Fans Still Believe Iron Man Could Return
Despite official statements, fans continue to speculate.
Part of that comes from Marvel's long history of fake-outs, multiverse twists and surprise cameos. Characters once thought gone for good have returned before, sometimes in alternate forms.
Another reason is nostalgia. For many viewers, Iron Man remains the emotional heart of the MCU. Downey Jr.'s performance helped launch the franchise in 2008, and his death in Endgame remains one of its most powerful moments.
As one fan put it online: 'The reaction if this was true would be much more hysterical than this.'
Others have started crafting elaborate theories. On Reddit, one popular post suggests Doctor Doom could win in Doomsday, leading to a timeline reset in Secret Wars.
Another theory imagines Doom killing Spider-Man and reshaping the MCU entirely, with Iron Man potentially returning in a rebooted universe.
So far, none of these ideas have been supported by Marvel.
A Star-Studded Cast Fuels More Rumours

Part of the hype surrounding Doomsday comes from its massive cast.
According to the BBC, the film will feature Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch and many more.
With so many familiar faces returning, fans are primed to expect surprises — and that makes them more likely to believe leaks, even fake ones.
Marvel has also been teasing major storylines involving X-Men characters, Wakanda, Thor and the Fantastic Four, adding to the sense that Doomsday will be a major turning point.
Fans Divided: Let Him Rest or Bring Him Back?
Online reaction to the fake Iron Man video has been mixed.
Some fans are firmly against the idea of reviving Tony Stark, arguing that it would undermine Endgame's emotional impact.
'I had a breakdown when Tony died. That moment meant something,' one user wrote.
Others are more open to seeing Downey Jr. in any form, even if it means revisiting Iron Man through multiverse storytelling.

There is also growing concern that Marvel could fall into a familiar pattern — letting the villain win in one film before reversing everything in the next.
'My biggest fear is that they'll just repeat Infinity War and Endgame,' another fan commented.
For Now, It's Just Another Fake Leak
At present, there is no credible evidence that Iron Man will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel has confirmed Downey Jr.'s return as Doctor Doom. Nothing more.
The viral video appears to be another example of how easily fan-made content can blur the line between fiction and fact in the social media age.
With trailers, Super Bowl ads and official teasers still to come, more rumours are almost inevitable.
Until Marvel says otherwise, Tony Stark's story remains finished.
And for many fans, that is exactly how it should be.
