Are Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Facing Bankruptcy After $100 Million Netflix Deal Collapsed?
Meghan's latest Netflix project, a lifestyle series titled With Love, Meghan, debuted in March but reportedly underperformed.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's multi-million dollar partnership with Netflix is reportedly coming to an end, and with it, fresh concerns about the couple's financial future.
Once hailed as a bold post-royal move, their partnership with the streaming platform was meant to support original content under their Archewell Productions banner. However, with a sharp decline in viewership, creative setbacks, and a shift in priorities, Netflix has decided not to renew the agreement.
According to reports, insiders believe this development could place significant strain on the Sussexes' finances and potentially, their relationship.
Deal Winds Down Without Renewal
The Sussexes signed their Netflix deal in 2020, shortly after stepping back from royal duties, with promises of producing 'impactful' documentaries and series. However, the relationship between the couple and the streaming platform has cooled. RadarOnline reports that the platform has 'no appetite' to continue the partnership, which is set to expire later this year.

'There's no animosity from either side,' a source told the outlet. 'Things have just run their course.' An official public announcement is not expected, but sources say both parties have quietly agreed to part ways.
However, a source familiar with the matter claims that Netflix feel they've got all they can from the couple. 'They're not unhappy with how things turned out — they got those initial hits, and produced one of the most talked-about shows of all time,' the source said.
Declining Viewership and Waning Public Interest
A key factor in the deal's demise appears to be declining audience interest. Meghan's latest Netflix project, a lifestyle series titled With Love, Meghan, debuted in March but reportedly underperformed. According to streaming data cited by RadarOnline, the show only garnered 5.3 million views in the first half of 2025, ranking 383rd on the platform.
A Netflix insider noted, 'There was initial curiosity about them, but that's evaporated. They have gone from buzzy to background noise.'

Meanwhile, Prince Harry's personal documentary on polo, described by sources as a 'vanity project,' also struggled, attracting only around 500,000 viewers.
Pressure Mounts on Their Lifestyle
Insiders have raised concerns over the couple's financial sustainability, particularly with the loss of such a high-value deal. One source told the media, 'Meghan and Harry rely on this deal to sustain upkeep on their $29 million mansion and their huge range of staff. Without it, and without massively curbing their spending, they could be headed for bankruptcy.'
While neither party has publicly commented on their financial situation, the pressure of maintaining their Montecito lifestyle without steady commercial revenue has prompted fresh speculation about the long-term viability of their media ventures.
Creative Challenges and Changing Priorities
The couple's ability to generate compelling content was also called into question. One source involved with the production described With Love, Meghan as 'well-lit but flat.' Another added, 'They're not natural content creators, they're trying to be what they think the public wants, rather than being authentic.'

According to reports, Netflix executives grew frustrated when it became clear that Meghan was prioritising her lifestyle brand, As Ever, over further content development. 'Netflix execs are well aware Meghan's priority now is her own brand, and they won't play second fiddle to that,' a source said.
Despite With Love, Meghan being renewed for another season, insiders believe this is more about fulfilling existing contractual obligations than renewed interest.
What Comes Next?
While Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos is believed to remain on good terms with Meghan, the company has since pivoted towards other high-profile partnerships, including a recent collaboration with King Charles and Idris Elba.
Speculation has emerged around Paramount+ as a possible future home for the couple's media ambitions. Still, for now, the end of the Netflix deal marks a significant financial and reputational blow. 'It's a huge loss of revenue,' one source added. 'And for Harry, especially, this will be a blow.'
