'Ozempic Penis'? Male Users Claim Genital Growth After Weight Loss Jab Goes Viral
Men taking Ozempic for weight loss say they've seen size changes, but doctors point to fat loss around the groin—not actual growth—as the likely cause.

A new wave of surprising social media claims has gone viral after male users of Ozempic began reporting noticeable changes to their genitalia. While the accounts are anecdotal and not backed by scientific studies, they have sparked widespread debate, humour and curiosity online.
The phenomenon began gaining traction in June 2025, with the term 'Ozempic penis' taking hold on platforms such as Reddit and TikTok.
Although the drug is prescribed primarily for weight loss and diabetes management, some men say they have noticed a visible increase in size. Doctors, however, remain sceptical and caution against jumping to conclusions.
What Are Men Saying?
Several men claim they have experienced an increase in length since starting Ozempic or other GLP-1 medications. One Reddit user reported a gain of just over an inch. Others suggest the effect appeared after several weeks or months of consistent use.
While these claims are not supported by clinical evidence, the anecdotal nature of the discussion has led to considerable interest. Many users speculate the change is not caused by the drug directly, but rather by fat loss in the pubic area that reveals more of what was previously hidden.
When Did This Start?
Mentions of the phenomenon first appeared on Reddit earlier this year, but it wasn't until June that the stories were picked up by mainstream outlets such as the New York Post and NDTV. From there, the story spread rapidly across the internet, fuelling memes, hot takes and medical debates alike.
Where Is This Being Discussed?
The bulk of the conversation is taking place across Reddit, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). Users, often posting anonymously, have shared their experiences and compared notes on what they describe as unexpected physical changes.
Some posts have attracted thousands of comments, ranging from genuine curiosity to outright disbelief. Many online users have also chimed in with humorous responses and sceptical memes, further propelling the trend.
Who Is Involved?
These claims are coming from regular male users, primarily those taking Ozempic or Wegovy for weight loss purposes. Most say they have never experienced similar effects with other medications or diets.
No celebrities or medical professionals have publicly supported the claims, and there is currently no clinical trial or scientific literature verifying the phenomenon.
Why Might It Be Happening?
Medical experts believe there is a far more straightforward explanation. As men lose a significant amount of belly fat, particularly around the groin area, more of the penis becomes visible. This can give the illusion of growth without any physiological change in size.
In addition, factors such as improved blood flow, posture, and self-image may influence how users perceive their bodies. Although GLP-1 drugs can have rare effects on libido or hormone levels, doctors stress there is no evidence linking them to penile enlargement.
How Are Doctors Responding?
Doctors are urging caution and calling the stories anecdotal at best. Ozempic, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, works by controlling insulin levels and appetite. It does not interact with hormones that affect sexual function.
One specialist said that perceived changes are understandable, particularly in patients who experience dramatic weight loss. However, they recommend speaking to a healthcare provider for any health concerns rather than relying on viral posts.
So far, pharmaceutical companies behind GLP-1 drugs have not issued any statements on the matter, and there are no known studies planned to investigate the phenomenon.
Even so, the trend underscores how deeply body image and weight loss are intertwined, and how physical transformations are often viewed through a highly personal lens.
