A PlayStation user allegedly lost access to their account after sharing a leaked Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay clip through the PlayStation App. The claim has sparked debate about how closely Sony monitors private messages and whether gamers could risk losing access to their accounts simply by forwarding footage that is already circulating online.

However, the incident has not been independently confirmed by Sony, and the account holder has not publicly identified themselves. The details currently come from a Reddit post describing what allegedly happened to the poster's friend.

Account Allegedly Locked Over GTA 6 Clip

According to the Reddit post, a user attempted to send a leaked GTA 6 gameplay clip to another person through the PlayStation App. The footage was reportedly linked to material circulating online, with the poster suggesting it may have originated from Cyberleek.

The account was allegedly locked almost immediately after the clip was sent. The affected player then contacted PlayStation support to find out what had happened and how they could regain access. Describing the incident, the Reddit user wrote that 'Rockstar and Sony aren't playing around' when it comes to leaked content.

The post also described what the user characterised as a potentially lengthy appeals process. The Reddit user claimed their friend was told that an appeal could take as long as three months, potentially leaving them without access to their account for an extended period.

The post did not include publicly verifiable suspension notices or correspondence with customer support. It also did not establish whether the account received a permanent ban, a temporary suspension or another restriction. As a result, the precise circumstances remain unclear.

Sony's Rules Allow Account Suspensions

Although the specific GTA 6 incident remains unverified, PlayStation's published policies make clear that users can face serious consequences for breaching its Terms of Service and Code of Conduct.

Sony says it can suspend social features or an entire account, either temporarily or permanently, depending on the severity of the violation and the player's previous offences. A full account suspension can prevent someone from accessing online multiplayer, the PlayStation Store and other services, including certain products they have purchased.

Its updated Terms of Service also explain that the company may use automated technology, including tools that detect potentially prohibited online activity, communications and content. The policy lists several examples, including harmful links, spam, illegal material and other content that may breach its rules.

That does not, by itself, prove that an automated system detected the alleged GTA 6 clip or directly triggered the reported suspension.

GTA 6 remains one of gaming's most anticipated upcoming releases.

GTA 6 Leaks Put Sony Under the Spotlight

The claim arrives as leaked GTA 6 footage continues to circulate online, creating headaches for Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive. Both companies have taken steps to protect their intellectual property, including requesting the removal of leaked material from online platforms.

The reported PlayStation incident has also raised questions about privacy. Some gamers have expressed concern that content shared in what feels like a private conversation could still lead to enforcement action. Others argue that users should understand that messages sent through a platform's own services are subject to its rules, even when they are exchanged between friends.

For now, there is no public confirmation that Sony has introduced a specific policy targeting people who share GTA 6 leaks through the PS App. The Reddit account remains an individual allegation, rather than evidence of a wider crackdown.

Nevertheless, the story serves as a reminder that sharing unauthorised footage through a gaming platform can carry risks, particularly when the material involves a highly anticipated release.
