Janet Jackson splits from husband three months after welcoming a son

Pop star Janet Jackson has reportedly split from her husband just three months after giving birth to her first child at the age of 50.

The singer married Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana in 2012 and last year announced she was postponing her Unbreakable world tour after becoming pregnant. On January 3, the couple welcomed their son, Eissa.

According to The Mail on Sunday a friend of the new parents confirmed the reports, adding that the split was amicable.

"Sadly, Janet and Wissam have decided that it wasn't working and to go their separate ways," said the source. "They're both busy people but determined to be good parents, even if they're apart. It's amicable and Eissa will stay with his mother, who is basing herself in London."

The pop-star sister of the late Michael Jackson was rumoured to have converted to Islam to marry the multi-millionare businessman, who is CEO of the multinational Al Mana business conglomerate.

And with a net worth of around £800million, the new father might well be faced with an expensive divorce settlement.

It's the third failed marriage for That's the Way Love Goes singer. She first tied the knot with singer James DeBarge in 1984, but the pair split up the following year and the marriage was later annulled.

In 1991 she married Mexican back-up dancer Rene Elizondo, but inisted on keeping the relationship secret "to protect her image".

After an acrimonious break-up the pair divorced in 2000, resulting in a $10 million payout by Jackson in the divorce settlement.

After the demise of her second marriage, the singer said she feared she might be 'unlucky' in love. "I thought I was jinxed," she explained.

"Maybe marriage isn't for me? Maybe it's my fault it never works. I was always faithful. When it was over, I put up shields to protect myself from being hurt."
