Jay Blades, the well-known presenter of The Repair Shop, has seen his television career paused following ongoing legal proceedings. The 54-year-old was removed from BBC programming after being charged with controlling and coercive behaviour in September 2024.

In August 2025, West Mercia Police confirmed that Blades had been charged with two counts of rape, with a court appearance scheduled for 13 August 2025 at Telford Magistrates' Court. The BBC subsequently ceased broadcasting episodes featuring the presenter and made changes to the programme's format.

A Timeline of Jay Blades' Court Case

Legal proceedings involving Blades began to surface publicly in 2024. He married fitness trainer Lisa-Marie Zbozen in November 2022 during a private ceremony in Barbados. By May 2024, Zbozen announced their separation, citing irreconcilable differences.

In September 2024, Blades was charged with engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour in a relationship between January 2023 and September 2024. He pleaded not guilty at Worcester Crown Court in October 2024.

Further charges followed in August 2025, when West Mercia Police announced that Blades would face two counts of rape. He continues to deny all charges and has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.

BBC's Response to Allegations

Following the announcement of charges in 2024, the BBC took action to limit its association with Blades. The Times reported that the broadcaster was putting plans in place to avoid airing future episodes of The Repair Shop featuring him, although past episodes remained available on BBC iPlayer.

Promotional activity involving Blades was also paused. Although the BBC has not commented on the long-term future of the show's hosting format, it confirmed that no new work with Blades is planned for the foreseeable future.

Impact on 'The Repair Shop' Crew

The departure of Jay Blades from The Repair Shop prompted format adjustments within the series. Narrator Bill Paterson assumed an expanded role, appearing on-screen to introduce and guide special episodes—a first for the programme. Meanwhile, the show's regular restoration experts, including Will Kirk, Suzie Fletcher, and Dominic Chinea, continued in their usual roles.

Although the BBC has not issued formal statements regarding internal team dynamics, the programme has continued airing without interruption, and the core cast has remained in place.

One notable example of the updated format is the special episode The Coronation Bench, where Paterson delivers on-screen segments. This episode visually reflects how the show adapted following Blade's absence.

Cancelled Live Tours and Other Projects

Associated events and public appearances involving Blades were also affected. The Repair Shop: Secrets From the Barn, a live tour connected to the television series, saw several performance dates cancelled due to reduced ticket sales following the media coverage of the case.

According to reports, Blades was no longer attached to these appearances once the charges became public.

Other networks, including Channel 5, reportedly paused projects that were in development with the presenter, although formal confirmations remain limited.

Future of 'The Repair Shop'

Despite the legal developments concerning its former host, The Repair Shop continues to air with its remaining cast. The BBC has expressed its intent to support the ongoing production, ensuring that the programme's format and values remain consistent with viewer expectations.
