Oscars Snubs 2026: Here's Who Was Left Out of This Year's Nominations
A night of surprises as the Oscars defy predictions with unexpected outcomes

A dramatic Oscars ceremony ended with unexpected results as several predicted winners left the ceremony without a single trophy.
The 98th Academy Awards featured several surprising outcomes that changed expectations built during the awards season. Films and artists widely predicted to win in multiple categories were shut out when the final results were announced. The ceremony also included unusual outcomes, including a rare tie in one category and unexpected winners in several major races.
None for Timothée Chalamet and 'Marty Supreme'
One of the most talked-about outcomes involved actor Timothée Chalamet and the film 'Marty Supreme.' The film entered the ceremony with nine nominations, making it one of the most recognised titles of the year. Despite the strong showing in nominations, it did not win any awards during the ceremony. Chalamet had been considered a strong contender in the best actor category for his performance in the film.
By finishing the night without a single award, 'Marty Supreme' joined a small group of films known for receiving many nominations but winning none. Historical examples include 'The Turning Point' and 'The Color Purple,' which both received 11 nominations without a victory. Other films that experienced similar outcomes include 'Gangs of New York,' 'True Grit,' 'American Hustle,' 'The Irishman,' and 'Killers of the Flower Moon.' Each of those titles received 10 nominations but left the ceremony without an Oscar. Several other nine-time nominees have also had similar outcomes in the past.
The award instead went to Michael B. Jordan for his dual role in the film 'Sinners.' Jordan's performance gained momentum late in the awards season and ultimately secured the win on the night. The outcome left 'Marty Supreme' with one of the most notable shutouts of the ceremony. The film had also performed strongly at the box office, earning more than £140 million (approximately $179 million) worldwide. It also held a 93 percent rating on the review platform Rotten Tomatoes.
Casting Award Surprise for 'Sinners' Team
Another notable moment involved the first Academy Award presented for casting. The film 'Sinners' had been widely predicted to win the new category for its ensemble of actors. However, the award went to Cassandra Kulukundis for her work on 'One Battle After Another.' This outcome surprised many observers of the awards season. Casting director Francine Maisler had been recognised for assembling the cast of 'Sinners.' The result meant the vampire-themed film missed an award that many expected it to secure.
The best documentary feature category also produced an unexpected outcome. The Netflix documentary 'The Perfect Neighbor,' which focuses on police body camera footage, had been widely predicted to win. Instead, the award went to 'Mr Nobody Against Putin.' The result prevented director Geeta Gandbhir from winning in either of the two documentary categories in which her work had been nominated. Gandbhir had also been nominated in the documentary short category during the ceremony. Both nominations ultimately ended without a victory.
Animated Short Category Produces Another Surprise
The animated short film category also produced a surprise result. Many predictions had suggested that the film 'Butterfly' would secure the award. However, the prize was awarded to 'The Girl Who Cried Pearls.'
Rare Tie Occurs During Live-Action Short Category
Another unusual moment during the ceremony occurred in the live-action short category. The Academy announced a rare tie between two films: both 'Singers' and 'Two People Exchanging Saliva' were named winners.
Ties in Academy Award categories are uncommon but permitted under the voting rules of the organisation.
