'Pray To My Dog, Mecca:' MAGA Laura Loomer Wants Muslims To Pray 5 Times a Day to Her Dog
MAGA influencer Laura Loomer faces backlash for anti-Muslim tweets on dogs sparking debate on social media.

MAGA influencer Laura Loomer posted a picture of her four dogs and immediately turned the feed into a rant - with an addition of anti-Muslim posts that sparked outrage online.
'Muslims want to ban my 4 dogs. One of my dogs is named Mecca. This is Mecca. I make Muslims pray toward my dog 5 times a day. I choose Mecca,' Loomer posted on X.

The caption left followers short-circuiting their feeds, their phones flashing red, their eyes bigger. The post made headlines in a snap, as followers of Loomer ran a tight rope on her claims, while the skeptics warned against the obvious exaggeration.
The tweet appeared to reflect earlier criticisms that Loomer had levelled about immigration and religion - particularly to Muslims. Loomer posted a series of anti-Muslim rants particularly to how the religion sees dogs as 'unclean.'
'The Haitians and illegals are eating your dogs and cats. The Muslims want to ban your dogs as Haram. The Democrats support all of those people over your dogs,' she added another post.
'Republicans are being asked to resign for standing up for your dogs. Vote like your Dog's life depends on it!' she continued.

An attack on the Muslim community and Palestinian activists
The language was personal, angry, and it conflicted with the norms of the social media community at large. When Loomer tried to make it clear, she pointed fingers at a Palestinian activist, Nerdeen Kiswani.
She reposted Kiswani's tweet, 'NYC is coming to Islam. Dogs definitely have a place in society, just not as indoor pets. Like we've (Muslims) said all along, they are unclean.'
The Palestinian Muslim “activist” who supports Hamas and called for dogs to be banned in NYC because they are “un-Islamic” is now blaming “Zionists” for the outrage over her calls to ban dogs. @NerdeenKiswani, you literally said, “NYC is coming to Islam. The activist, known for having a voice in pro-Palestinian circles, appeared bewildered when Loomer accused her of joking and threatened a 'fast-track Sharia Law in America.'
Loomer tweeted, 'The Palestinian Muslim 'activist' who supports Hamas and called for dogs to be banned in NYC because they are 'un-Islamic' is now blaming 'Zionists' for the outrage over her calls to ban dogs.'
'You were not anticipating Americans to resist your efforts to wage Jihad on our beloved pets, who we adore and consider family. My 4 dogs sleep in my bed with me every night. They are like my children until I have children someday,' Loomer added.
'You have taken your Islamic takeover too far. You are attacking our dogs, our family.' The tone changed from fiery to personal when Loomer mentioned her four dogs again.
The X rant jolts quickly from politics to pet-loving intimacy, a style change that both intrigued and confused users and fans.
It's a political firestorm for pet lovers
A few local politicians called for a wider debate on the role that social media platforms should play in dealing with inflammatory material.
For Loomer, she posted a series of tweets about Islam and dogs, in general.
'More people need to be filled with rage about what Islam has done to our country...Coming after your pets is a test before they come after all non-Muslims. People better wake up before it's too late. I'd love to see the White House address this Islamic invasion,' Loomer said in another post.
Likewise, Loomer will also be holding a series of streams and talks about dogs, society, and Islam, entitled, 'Muslims Declare WAR On Dogs In NYC.' Rep. Randy Fine will also guest-star on the show after the congressman posted a video on Facebook.
'A major Muslim leader in NYC is calling for dogs to be forbidden because they 'bother some Muslims,' he shared. 'If Mainstream Muslims make us choose between keeping our dogs and them going home, the choice is easy,' he concluded.

Fine's short post caused a wave of outrage. The comments that followed were a mix of criticism of Fine's rhetoric and speculation on the motives of Loomer.
The incident also put into focus the response of religious communities to criticism. Several Muslim representatives entered into the conversation and stressed that in Islam it is acceptable to have dogs as pets, provided they are treated with respect.
'In Islam, dogs are not in themselves impure,' one user said, contradicting Loomer's point that Muslims want a ban.
The juxtaposition of the two sides was, of course, stark but the discussion was largely respectful and a reminder that even contentious issues can have some common ground.
Community backlash, especially with 'Mecca'
The tweet is what started the chain reaction. X users jumped in, many laughing, many condemning, many demanding context. The reaction was one part trolling, one part sincere concern for how the language may help fuel Islamophobia.
'The furious comments on X were a combination of trolling with serious concern for the Muslim community,' observers noted.
One X user responded to Loomer's 'Mecca' post.
'It sounds like there's a bit of a situation going on with your dogs and some Muslims in your area. In Islam, dogs are not considered impure animals, but they are treated with caution due to ritual purity concerns. The Quran mentions dogs positively, and they're allowed for specific purposes like hunting, guarding, or herding,' they said.
'However, some Muslims might be uncomfortable around dogs due to cultural or traditional reasons. Regarding your dog named Mecca, it's worth noting that Mecca is a holy city in Islam, and Muslims face towards it during prayer (Qibla). Your actions might be perceived as disrespectful or provocative, which could be contributing to the tension.'
'First of all, Muslims don't pray to a dog, a cube, or a city. They pray to God, and they face Mecca as a direction of unity. It's called Qibla. A direction. Not a deity. Naming your dog 'Mecca' and saying 'I make Muslims pray toward my dog' isn't edgy. It's not clever. It's just loud ignorance dressed up as humor...If you're going to disrespect 1.9 billion people, at least do the homework first,' another replied to Loomer.
'Deliberately insulting a religion to get attention says more about your character than it does about Muslims,' commented another.
'Mocking the sacred beliefs of over a billion people doesn't make you brave... it reveals narrow-mindedness. Respect costs you nothing, but its absence exposes everything.'
Some demanded a formal examination of Loomer's social media behaviour. Others argued that Loomer's statement was an exercise of free speech, noting the fact that the line between satire and hate speech can be very blurry in the digital age.

'Masterclass in performative sacrilege'
Loomer's tweet is more than a social media blip, however - it's a microcosm of the larger cultural battles that are raging throughout the country.
To pet lovers, the controversy raises the issue of how our relationship with animals has become intertwined with politics. Loomer's description of her dogs as 'like my children' gets sympathy from some and scepticism from others.
For the Muslim community, the remarks were a reminder that Islamophobia can take place in ways that are unexpected.
