TV Presenter Mark Lamarr Slapped With Six-Month Driving Ban Over 46mph Speeding Offense
Former TV host Mark Lamarr's plea for leniency in a driving ban case falls on deaf ears as the court remains firm on its decision.

Mark Lamarr, also known as Mark Jones in real life, tried but failed to convince a court why a driving ban should not be imposed on him. He told the court about the exceptional hardship he is now dealing with but his defense hardly changed the decision of the Willesden Magistrate's Court.
The 59-year-old Lamarr was given a six-month driving ban and was fined £326 after admitting that he went over the 40mph speed limit in Twickenham, South West London in June 2025. Lamarr was driving at 46mph at the time, per a report by BBC News.
Before the sanctions, the former host of Never Mind The Buzzcocks tried to air his side. He mentioned that since it was early in the morning when the speeding offence happened and that no one was around that he lost his focus. That included being unaware that he was already going over the speed limit.
'Sometimes when there's no other traffic around at all your mind isn't quite as concentrated on the few miles an hour of the speed limit you are exceeding,' Lamarr explained.
Lamarr's Exceptional Hardship Debate
Beyond that, the former Radio 2 DJ detailed how life had become difficult for him since he is no longer able to drive his own car. He detailed how this arrangement has left him with exceptional hardship.
That included suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome and being too exhausted to use public transport or travel on foot. Citing his age, he argued that this forced him to lie down a couple of days and that he was unable to walk for weeks with his current setup.
Also, the comedian reasoned that without his own transport, he was unable to properly transport his young daughter to see his mother, who had arthritis. He also said that being effectively retired, he is now dealing with records, yet another reason why he needs to be driving his own vehicle.
Despite his defense, Lamarr's tales did not move Margaret Mansi, the chairwoman of the bench. Mansi understood that Lamarr was dealing with hardship. However for her, it was not exceptional hardship, The Mirror reported.
Lamarr Driving Violation History Did Him In
Aside from that June 2025 speeding offence, it did not help that Lamarr had a record of past offences. Before those three penalty points were imposed on the 59-year-old, he already had nine points on his license for past violations. These speeding offences took place in August 2023 and May 2025, a month before the June incident.
Given those offences, it was hardly surprising that the court stood its ground against the famed host. It is a burden he needs to carry for now – something he should have given consideration before committing those multiple violations.
Despite claiming he is effectively retired, Lamarr, at only 59, can certainly carry on with life with what he has without the comforts of a vehicle. His ban is only for a couple of months, and sacrificing for the time-being may not be that tough to bear.
After shooting his way to fame in the 90s, Lamarr has taken on different roles that made him a familiar name. After writing film scripts and producing music, the 59-year-old has stepped away from the showbiz world to lead a simple life. Unfortunately, he also needs to understand that there are laws that need to be followed and any violation requires him to pay for it.
