Security at the 2026 Academy Awards has been significantly tightened ahead of Sunday's ceremony at the Dolby Theatre, following a specific warning from the FBI regarding a potential retaliatory drone strike by Iran.

Law enforcement agencies across California were recently alerted that Iran may seek to target locations on the West Coast in response to American military actions earlier this year.

While officials stress there is no evidence of a specific, imminent threat to the Academy Awards themselves, the climate of heightened tension has prompted organisers to implement robust, multi-layered security protocols to ensure the safety of attendees, fans, and staff.

'We Want Everybody To Feel Safe And Protected'

Oscar producers, who are eager to retain attention on the glamour, have assured them that they are doing their best to ensure everyone's safety. Most recently, executive producers Katy Mullan and Raj Kapoor affirmed the partnership with the law enforcement agencies at a press conference.

'We have the support of the FBI and the LAPD, and it's a close collaboration,' Kapoor said.

'This show has to run like clockwork. But we want everybody that is coming to this show, that is witnessing the show, that is even a fan of the show when they're standing outside the barricades, we want everybody to feel safe and protected and welcome, so it's our job as a producing team to make sure that that translates.'

The FBI and the Los Angeles Police Department are collaborating with the event organisers. Their combined actions involve the use of more intelligence, security guards and a more rigorous screening process.

In a joint statement, the departments wrote: 'In light of current global events, the Department remains at an elevated level of readiness and is maintaining increased vigilance as we continue to protect our residents of Los Angeles County. We are working closely with our federal and local law enforcement partners to share intelligence and monitor the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and assess any potential impacts in our communities. The safety of the public remains our highest priority. As part of our preparedness efforts, we remain attentive to all potential threats, including lone-actor attacks, sleeper cells, and advanced technological or cyber-related threats.'

The police department's statement emphasised that they are more vigilant, exchanging intelligence and tracking ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

Although the details of the threat are undisclosed, the threat is so severe that it justifies the visible security presence. On-site will be metal detectors, bag checks, and armed officers. The objective: avoid any potential attack that may disrupt the event or harm the guests.

Growing Cloud of Concern

The air is clouded with unease as the glittering event is about to happen at the Dolby Theatre. A warning issued by the FBI on the possibility of Iran initiating a surprise attack using drones has threatened to darken the big birthday Hollywood was about to have.

The federal agency allegedly leaked information that Iran could seek to attack California using unmanned aerial vehicles on offshore ships. The menace, which is allegedly connected to the fear of Iran taking vengeance against the US military activities in the Middle East, has caused officials to take action.

This is not a mere indirect threat. It is one of the bigger trends of heightening tension. It has been simmering beneath the surface that the US and its allies have been pondering retaliation after launching military attacks on the military arsenals of Iran earlier this year. Some analysts believe Iran will seek to show its defiance by launching a secret attack.

The US government is not taking chances, although it has not singled out the targets.

'Remain Prepared For Any Emergency'

Senior officials are also alert in California. Governor Gavin Newsom keeps in touch with security agencies to monitor potential threats. On social media, he has assured citizens that there is no threat between them at the moment. Nevertheless, he was open to preparedness. He had said that we knew of no impending dangers, but that we were ready to meet any emergency.

The emphasis on safety in the background affects everyone. The Oscar team has laboured so hard to strike a balance between tooting and gloom. Securities could be expected to check people and patrol more often; however, the purpose remains the same: to make the night unforgettable for the right reasons.

Celebrities and guests have shown their insight. They interpret the increased security as a step needed by the world, where any threat may occur on the wrong side. To most, it is a sharp tower of reality that, despite Hollywood being enclosed in a bubble, global matters are being heard.

One of the security guards on duty outside the Dolby Theatre provided a report on the mood shift. Although the normal excitement prevails, it is accompanied by a feeling of alertness. The event's glamour masks a greater focus on safety.

The best of Hollywood is ready to shine, yet the spectre of international conflict is still there. Heightened security levels are a symbol of a world in which peace is not felt secure, and safety has been threatened, requiring its maintenance. Just as the stars are ready to go over the red carpet, the authorities, too, are ready to protect.
