Apple is all set to release a new set of iPhones this autumn, including the iPhone Fold, the Cupertino company's first foldable mobile phone. The official details and specifications of the iPhone Fold remain unknown, although there have been plenty of rumours on what these could be.

Among the initial leaks on what the iPhone Fold features could include is seeing a device having 12GB of RAM and possibly up to 1TB of storage, The Bell reported. If true, this hints that Apple's first foldable phone could carry the same specs that the iPhone 17 Pro has.

Storage Options, Price Leaks Surface

However, another leaker claims that the iPhone Fold may come out with other storage options. It may come with a 256GB or 512GB storage capacity, variants that are likely to come slightly lower than the 1TB version.

Curiously, the 2TB storage option which is available for the iPhone 17 Pro Max was not mentioned. Instead, it aligns with what the iPhone 17 Pro, a smaller variant, has. Given that this is a new model, it may be possible that Apple is using a conservative approach to avoid undermining the iPhone Pro models.

Potential pricing for the iPhone Fold was also leaked. But considering the potential specifications leaked right now are scarce, it would be hard to figure out if the pricing is reasonable.

Macworld provided some of the likely prices of the iPhone Fold based on storage capacity. They are as follows:

  • 256GB version – £1,509 ($1,999)
  • 512GB version - £1,660 ($2,199)
  • 1TB version - £1,811 ($2,399)

Compared to the current iPhones in the market, there is no doubt that these prices are a bit steep. But if past forecasts on how much the iPhone Fold is expected to cost are concerned, it aligns with the projected price ranges of £1,510 ($2,000) to £1,810 ($2,400).

Foldable Phone Market Positioning

Given the potentially steep price the iPhone Fold may have, it is likely that some users may go for the lower and proven iPhone models instead. But for those who want to get their hands on something new and foldable by nature, comparing the iPhone Fold to other foldable phones could be wise.

While it is true that some buyers would think twice about paying for a £1,510 ($2,000) phone, a look at what other brands have to offer would be wise. Like in the case of Samsung, which offers top-tier foldable devices priced between £1,359 ($1,800) and £1,435 ($1,900), the iPhone Fold could be a premium alternative for consumers looking for a new product in the mobile phone niche.

Looking at it from a business standpoint, there is no question that Apple has strategically considered how to place the iPhone Fold in the market. Offering a new phone that is foldable will arguably have some new features to show.

Hence, the iPhone Fold is likely to be placed in the elite product class rather than the standard mass-market phone, as pointed out by the Mac Observer. Spending big on high-end phones is nothing new. However, it remains that potential iPhone Fold buyers want to know all the details, information that is likely to come out gradually in the following months.
