A growing political controversy has erupted in Washington after former counterterrorism official Joe Kent claimed he was blocked from fully investigating the 2025 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and that, before being sidelined, he uncovered evidence Israel had ordered the killing. Kent has also begun questioning US policy toward Iran, alleging that Kirk had warned him about an impending war in the days before his death.

Joe Kent's Explosive Claims About Charlie Kirk, Israel And An Iran War

Kent, who resigned from his position earlier this week in protest over the US war with Iran, made the explosive allegations during an appearance on The Tucker Carlson Show. He said that the National Counterterrorism Centre had initially been involved in examining Kirk's killing but was later prevented from continuing its work.

According to Kent, the investigation was effectively halted when federal authorities shifted control of the case. He claimed the FBI moved to hand the matter over to Utah state officials, limiting the involvement of national security agencies. Kent suggested this left key questions unanswered, adding that the circumstances surrounding Kirk's death deserved further scrutiny.

But why was the investigation halted in the first place? Although Kent did not have a definitive answer, he seemingly suggested that Israel may have been involved in Kirk's assassination. During the interview, Kent shared that Kirk somehow implored him to 'stop us from getting into a war with Iran' on their final meeting at the White House.

'So when one of President Trump's closest advisors, who is vocally advocating for us to not go to war with Iran and for us to rethink, at least, our relationship with the Israelis, and then he's suddenly publicly assassinated, and we're not allowed to ask any questions about that,' Kent said. 'It's a data point.'

The remarks have since added a new layer of political tension to an already divisive issue. The United States' involvement in the Iran conflict has sparked deep disagreements within conservative circles, with some figures backing the administration's actions while others warn of long-term consequences. Kent himself cited the war as a key reason for his resignation, arguing that Iran did not pose an 'imminent threat' to the United States.

His claims about the blocked investigation have not been independently verified, and officials have not publicly confirmed any interference in the Kirk case. However, the allegations have fuelled speculation among political commentators, particularly given the broader debate over transparency and accountability in high-profile investigations.

What Happened to Charlie Kirk?

On 10 September 2025, Kirk was speaking at an outdoor campus event at Utah Valley University when he was shot by a gunman positioned on a nearby rooftop. The attack happened in front of a large crowd during a live debate.

Kirk was struck in the neck by a single bullet and was immediately rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead. Kirk was 31 years old at the time of his death.

Authorities later identified the suspect as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old man from Utah. He was arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with multiple crimes, including aggravated murder. Officials have since described the killing as a targeted attack, and prosecutors have said they may seek the death penalty.
