Hawaii Doctor Trial: Wife Testifies On Alleged Murder Attempt — Chilling Account
Trial continues as wife testifies on husband's alleged murder attempt during hike

The wife of a Hawaii doctor accused of attempting to kill her delivered harrowing testimony in court a year after the incident, recounting what prosecutors describe as a violent attack during a hike that nearly turned fatal.
Arielle Konig, 37, told jurors on Tuesday, 24 March, that her husband, anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig, attacked her while they were hiking on Oahu in March 2025. She testified that he held her down and told her, 'Nobody's coming to save you,' during the alleged assault, per People.
Wife Recalls Alleged Cliffside Attack
Arielle told the court that Konig, an anesthesiologist based in Maui, had taken her hiking along a steep cliffside trail in Oahu. She said she had felt uncomfortable with the height and terrain at one stage during their hike, and declined to go higher. She did, however, still agree to pose for a photo with him near the edge of the cliff.
While taking photos, she asked him to move so she could step away from the edge and continue down the path. As she approached Gerhardt, he allegedly suddenly seized her arms and began shouting, 'I'm so f---ing done with this s—' before saying, 'get back over there.' He then allegedly forced her to the ground.
According to Arielle, Gerhardt was initially trying to get her to the edge of the cliff, and reported seeing him holding a syringe. She told the court, 'He was first trying to pull me closer to the cliff.' He told her to 'hold still,' before going into his backpack while holding her down with his other hand. He told her, 'F--- you, you're done. He also told Arielle, 'I'm so sick of your s—.'
In her testimony, she said she struggled to pull his hands away after noticing he was holding a vial. As she resisted, she said he told her to be quiet, saying, 'Shut the f--- up. Nobody's gonna hear you out here. Nobody's coming to save you.' She started talking about their children to try and stop Gerhardt, telling him, 'Our kids will be orphans. You'll go to jail and I'll be dead, our kids need us,' after which she recalled her husband seemed to relax momentarily.

Her resistance didn't do much, according to her statement. Gerhardt allegedly responded with, 'You're done. We don't need you anymore.' The attack only ended when nearby hikers heard Arielle's cries for help and called emergency services.
Prosecutors argue the attack was deliberate and escalated rapidly, while the defence has claimed the incident was a confrontation that spiralled out of control. Gerhardt Konig has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder charge.
Body Cam Footage Shown as Defence Claims Self-Defence
Jurors have also been shown body camera footage from responding officers as part of the trial, which is ongoing in Hawaii, as shared by Hawaii News Now. According to the report, a responding officer's body camera showed footage showing Arielle Konig with blood on her face as two hikers assisted her away from a trail near the Pali Lookout last March.
In addition to the prosecution's account, the defence has presented a sharply different narrative in court, arguing that the alleged attack was not a premeditated attempt on Arielle's life but a sudden, unplanned confrontation.

In opening statements, Thomas Otake, defence attorney, suggested that the incident stemmed from a dispute related to an 'emotional affair' Arielle reportedly had with a colleague, and they contend that Gerhardt Konig acted in self-defence after she struck him with a rock first during their argument, per The New York Post.
'She came after him, started kicking and punching. She picks up a rock and hits him in the face with it. He quickly reacts — human reaction. Grabs a rock, hits her twice and stops,' Otake said.
