The primary suspect police arrested for shooting at Rihanna's Los Angeles home last Sunday has been charged with attempted murder.

Florida resident Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, is facing an attempted murder charge on top of three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper, and ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Ortiz was charged on 10 March in connection with the shooting at Rihanna's Los Angeles home.

Ortiz allegedly went to the pop star's mansion intending to murder her, according to the prosecutor's complaint obtained by People. Los Angeles police arrested Ortiz on 9 March, a day after she allegedly fired multiple bullets into the celebrity's residence.

Witnesses Saw Bullets Fly During Shooting Incident

Rihanna and her rapper partner A$AP Rocky were reportedly at home when the shooting happened, at around 1:20pm on 8 March. Witnesses saw some of the bullets hit the gate and the entrance, according to a Fox LA report.

Prosecutors said there were other people in Rihanna's home and in the adjacent property at the time. No one was hurt in the incident.

"Opening fire in any populated neighbourhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk and will be fully prosecuted," Nathan J. Hochman, Los Angeles County District Attorney, stated per the BBC.

"This careless violence will not be tolerated in our community. Such shooters will find their next destination to be our jails and prisons," he added. Ortiz's bail is set at £1.4 million (about $1.88 million). She's facing a possible life sentence if convicted.

Suspect's Online History of Instigating Posts

The LAPD confirmed that Ortiz had been stalking and provoking Rihanna on social media for some time, in the hopes of meeting her. "Are you there? ... say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I'm not at.," Ortiz wrote in one of her X posts.

Ortiz also threw wild and baseless accusations at the pop star, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Ortiz alleged that the singer has AIDS and is involved in witchcraft. She also claimed that Rihanna wanted to kill her at one point.

Ortiz also targeted other celebrities on social media, slamming Cardi B. and calling Kim Kardashian a 'stupid b***h' in separate posts. She also said she was 'through with Rihanna' last year, more than two months before the shooting incident.

Suspect's Serial Harassment Went Beyond Online Posts

In October 2025, Ortiz also attempted to block Billie Eilish from performing at Orlando's Kia Centre. In a petition filed against Rihanna's promoter Live Nation Worldwide, Ortiz claimed that the organisers didn't have an event permit and noise waiver to operate.

Internet sleuths speculated over the shooting prior to Ortiz's arrest, emphasising the dark side of stan culture. Described as an intense and often obsessive fan dedication to celebrities, the term 'stan,' an amalgamation of 'stalker' and 'fan,' grew more popular after rapper Eminem used the term as the title for his 2000 single.

Rihanna experienced similar security breaches in 2018, including a stalker incident at her Hollywood Hills home in May. A burglary ring also targeted her Los Angeles property in September that year.
