Fleming's Grind to Greatness

A look at her personal life showed Carrie attended secondary school at Mount Douglas Senior Secondary in Victoria, B.C. She studied drama at Kaleidoscope Theatre and dance at Kidco Theatre dance group per IMDb.

After graduation, Fleming got into modelling to help support her family. Realising that holding odd jobs was not enough, she broke into the entertainment scene with roles in various TV series.

Among her first appearances were Showgirl No. 5 and Runway Model No. 1, according to USA Today. She also had guest roles in other TV shows like Smallville and Masters of Horror.

Fleming would make her way into films, appearing in movies such as Happy Gilmore. However, it was in horror television that she truly found her calling. Aside from Masters of Horror, she also appeared on The Tooth Fairy and Bloodsuckers.

But as most know, it was Fleming's recurring role portraying Karen Singer on Supernatural that made her prominent. After that, her success continued on CW's iZombie, where she played the role of Candy Baker. For those unfamiliar with her role, Baker became a zombie after a pivotal encounter with the series' main villain, Blaine DeBeers.

Fleming has several minor appearances through season 5 of iZombie. It was her last television role in 2019.

A Connection That Could Have Been

Of all the people who were close to Fleming, Beaver took her death the hardest. The 75-year-old, whose wife Cecily died of cancer in 2024, detailed on social media how their first meeting could have turned out to be something special. Both hit it off and appeared destined for a meaningful connection.

'As we sat on the set before our first scene, saying our hellos and breaking the ice as actors do when first paired up for a scene, she mentioned the name Madeline Rose. I was flummoxed, because that is my daughter's name, and there was no reason Carrie should know it. I said tentatively, "Who's Madeline Rose?" She said, "Oh, that's my daughter." I said, "Wait. That's MY daughter." Turns out that, spelling differences aside, our daughters had the same name. And that, as also happens in the movies, was the beginning of a beautiful friendship,' part of Beaver's Facebook post read.

Although Beaver and Fleming never became romantically involved due to distance, their bond remained meaningful.

'I lost Cecily to cancer in 2004. Thursday, I lost Carrie to the same disease. I never thought my heart could break so badly more than once. But it has. But, oh, the two torches I carry – what bright, bright light they shed,' he said.
