Was Jim Carrey Replaced by a Double at 2026 César Awards? Jenny McCarthy Slams Viral Conspiracy Theory
Jenny McCarthy clarifies the truth behind Jim Carrey's appearance at the César Awards, dismissing online conspiracy theories.

Jenny McCarthy has dismissed the online theory that Jim Carrey was replaced by a double at the 2026 César Awards in Paris, saying after the iHeartRadio Music Awards on 26 March that the man seen accepting the honour in February was, plainly, Jim Carrey. Her remarks came after a burst of social media speculation over Carrey's appearance at the French ceremony, where he received an honorary César for his contribution to film and television.
The rumour had already been rejected by Carrey's representatives, who said, 'Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.' Gregory Caulier, general delegate of the César Awards, called the rumours a 'non-issue,' noting Carrey's visit had been planned since summer and he had worked on his acceptance speech in French for months.
Jim Carrey and the Theory That Went Viral
What turned a career tribute into a conspiracy story was simple. Carrey, who has kept a lower public profile in recent years, appeared different to some viewers from the version they remembered from earlier films, and clips of the night quickly sparked claims that he had been replaced by a body double or someone in a mask.
It was flimsy stuff, but it spread regardless. Viewers compared his look with older images and read far too much into a rare public appearance, which says as much about celebrity culture as it does about Carrey himself. Drag artist Alexis Stone added fuel by posting images of prosthetics and a wig mimicking Carrey's look, claiming to have impersonated the star and adding a theatrical wrinkle.
Carrey had been at the event for a straightforward reason. He was there to accept an honorary prize, accompanied by his daughter Jane, her son Jackson, and his companion Min Ah, and official responses from both his side and the awards organisation treated the online theory as baseless rather than something requiring serious rebuttal.
Jenny McCarthy Pulls Jim Carrey Back Into Focus
McCarthy's intervention mattered because it cut through the noise with the authority of someone who knew Carrey well. The two were together for five years, from 2005 until their split in 2010, and when she spoke to People she did not lean into the spectacle of the rumour. Instead, she gave the answer in one line and moved on.
'It was definitely Jim Carrey,' she told the magazine. Then she shifted the conversation to something more revealing than cheekbones, camera angles or internet forensics, saying, 'He looked very happy at that award show. And I was happy for him. That's the first thing I noticed. I said, "Oh wow, Jim looks really happy."'

That is perhaps the sharpest part of the story. McCarthy did not argue that people were cruel, absurd, or blinded by the habits of online fandom, though all three readings are possible. She simply highlighted what others had missed, which was not whether Carrey looked exactly as he once did, but whether he appeared content.
Her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, made much the same point, telling People, 'You know, that's the part that, sadly, people miss. We're so obsessed with how he looks that we didn't consider how happy he looked.' It was a concise rebuke to a familiar kind of celebrity coverage, one that mistakes scrutiny for attention and treats ageing like a plot twist.
McCarthy rounded off by reflecting on their time together, telling People she was 'grateful' for it and would 'continue to be in his daughter's life and will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart.'
