Thorpe St Andrew School Incident: Teen Arrested After Girl Stabbed

Thorpe St Andrew School went into a temporary lockdown on Wednesday, 11 March, following reports of a teenage girl being stabbed. The girl, who was not identified, was immediately taken to hospital to treat her minor injuries.
According to a report by BBC News, it appears the suspect behind the stabbing incident at Thorpe St Andrew School is a 15-year-old boy. The teenager is believed to be a student at the school.
It was around 10:24 a.m. when authorities were called to the school following a reported stabbing incident. Aside from the Norfolk Police, emergency services such as firefighters and paramedics also attended the scene.
Authorities were able to arrest the boy believed to be behind the incident. He was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, The Guardian reported.
As of this writing, the teenager remains in police custody for questioning. The motive behind the stabbing remains unknown at this time.
Someone who was able to witness the arrest of the yet-to-be-identified teenage boy was an unidentified female dog walker.
'I had heard there was something going on at the school but wasn't expecting to see anything. The boy was standing up on the other side of the police car, with police around him,' the woman, who requested anonymity, said in a report by The Daily Star. 'While I was there, about six more police cars came racing up the road with sirens and lights on,' she added.
Traumatic Day for School
School Principal Penny Bignell admitted that the stabbing incident at Thorpe St Andrew was an incredibly traumatic development. The school followed lockdown procedures such as barricading doors, hiding under desks and closing blinds.
Parents were also sent letters, assuring them that the necessary protocols were followed by the school during a crisis like this.
'When something like this happens, routines and normality are helpful, and so school will be open as normal tomorrow at 8 am,' the correspondence sent to parents read. 'However, if you as a family wish to support your child at home, we will respect this choice.'
Incident Not Related to Previous Anti-Semitic Chants Fiasco
Tragic as the stabbing involving teenagers may have been, police believe it had no connection to a previous case at the same school last week. This is in reference to the antisemitic chanting that happened during a football game a couple of days ago.
This is in reference to the 5 March incident where Norfolk police received reports of a suspected hate crime where antisemitic chants were allegedly heard from spectators. The under-15 boys of London school JFS were playing in a national cup quarterfinal match against Thorpe St Andrew School at the time according to another report by BBC.
Principal Bignell condemned the antisemitic chants and said that they were completely unacceptable. Thorpe St Andrew School vowed to look into the matter and launched a full investigation.
Although authorities believe the incidents are not related, the issue and the days leading up to the stabbing are raising questions. The best way to confirm that they are not linked may only come once police have concluded their investigation into the teenage suspect and determined the reason behind the shocking assault on the teenage girl.
