US rapper Mystikal has pleaded guilty to third-degree rape in a Louisiana court, avoiding the possibility of a mandatory life sentence in a case that has drawn renewed attention to his long history of legal troubles.

The 55-year-old, whose real name is Michael Tyler, entered the plea just weeks before he was due to stand trial, marking a significant turning point in proceedings stemming from his 2022 arrest.

According to The Guardian, Tyler pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of third-degree rape as part of a deal with prosecutors.
