Welsh Singer To Drop Truth Bomb on Decade-Long Disappearance, Sexual Assault In Disney+ Documentary
The Welsh singer's shocking revelation and her journey to healing

After seeing her singing career blossom in 2008, Duffy or Aimee Anne Duffy mysteriously vanished from the entertainment scene and in public in 2011. Not many may have noticed it but it turns out that the now-41-year-old artist went through a harrowing ordeal.
It turns out that the reason behind her sudden disappearance resulted from a sexual assault and kidnapping. , per a report by BBC News.
It was a shocking revelation from Duffy, who is a three-time Brit Awards, Grammy and Ivor Novello winner. Details on that forgettable experience will be shown on Disney+, the first major interview the Welsh singer has had in 15 years.
Duffy's Rise And Sudden Disappearance
It was in 2008 when Duffy shot to fame for her album, Rockferry. She would follow this up with a second and third album before mysteriously vanishing, leaving her fans and the music industry perplexed.
The answer to all of that was revealed in an essay by the Welsh singer on her website, sharing how she was drugged at a restaurant on her birthday, held captive at her own home before being taken abroad. She shared how she was sexually assaulted and kept in that unnamed region for four weeks.
Escaping, Duffy's Path to Recovery
As far as she could recall, Duffy was unable to remember how she got on the plane and was taken to a different country. However, she recalled how she was put in a hotel room. She added that an unnamed perpetrator sexually assaulted her and also made threats to kill her, The Guardian reported.
Duffy managed to escape from all of that but admitted being clueless on how she found her way back home. She also added that for now, that suspected perpetrator is still on the loose and still at large.
But her escape was only the first step towards trying to get back to her normal life. She admitted the harrowing experience broke her, a reason why she preferred to be left alone.
'In the aftermath I would not see someone, a physical soul, for sometimes weeks and weeks and weeks at a time, remaining alone,' Duffy said. 'Rape stripped me of my human rights, to experience a life with autonomy from fear. It has already stolen one third of my life.'
Time to Heal
She needed time to heal, something that was understandably not easy. But thanks to the help of a psychologist, Duffy admits she is now ready to move on and leave all that behind.
'The recovery took time. There's no light way to say it. But I can tell you in the last decade, the thousands and thousands of days I committed to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun does now shine,' Duffy stated in an article from E! News.
Considering the forgettable episode of her life, Duffy's willingness to share her plight is a courageous one. Disney+ will have that honour, although they need to handle it with care and sensitivity.
'She has entrusted us with her story, so we really have a huge responsibility to handle this with care and sensitivity, because she's speaking about what happened to her for the first time,' Angela Jain, Disney+ head of content for Europe and Asia stated.
