Is Donald Trump Mentally Fit To Lead? MAGA Podcaster Shawn Ryan Questions President's Health
His highly personal break with Trump exposes an undercurrent of unease inside the former president's own base

MAGA-aligned podcaster and former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan has publicly questioned Donald Trump's mental fitness for office, suggesting in a viral post on X that the president may be struggling with his faculties while signing off on a multibillion-dollar peace initiative as US troops mobilise in the Middle East. Ryan interviewed Trump on his podcast 'The Shawn Ryan Show' in 2024, has built a largely right-wing audience, and was publicly aligned with the MAGA movement, making his criticism a notable break from within Trump's own base.
Responding to a White House announcement about the inaugural meeting of a new 'Board of Peace,' Ryan wrote on X: 'Ummm... I know we all thought the last guy had dementia but...', leaving the implication unstated. The reference to 'the last guy' appears to point to Joe Biden and long-running conservative claims about his cognitive decline — a pointed comparison from someone who once amplified those same claims. The White House has not directly addressed Ryan's remarks, and without independent medical evidence, the allegation should be treated cautiously.
There is nothing more important than PEACE.

Ryan's Break With Trump Over the Epstein Files
Ryan's frustration with Trump predates the mental fitness post and traces back to the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. His disillusionment appears to have begun following the Department of Justice's release of documents related to the convicted child sex offender.
Attorney General Pam Bondi publicly claimed that 'all' Epstein files had been released. Ryan rejected that as a meaningful outcome and, in a subsequent video, delivered a pointed critique of Bondi and the Justice Department, accusing them of failing to use the material to pursue alleged abusers. 'Nobody gives a f---,' he said, dismissing Bondi's congressional testimony and the Dow's rise to 50,000. 'What you should be talking about is how you are going to investigate and prosecute any p------- that are running around on Epstein Island that you're affiliated with. But we didn't talk about that, did we? Oh, and what's the excuse? Oh — "if we prosecute everybody the whole system would go down."'
The suggestion that prosecutions were avoided to protect the system is Ryan's characterisation, not a confirmed DOJ position. His claims about motives and affiliations remain unverified.
In January, Ryan admitted publicly that he regretted voting for Trump, linking that remorse directly to the Epstein records. 'I f------ voted for this s---,' he told his audience. 'I voted to get these d--- files released, and it's like a total 180 just happened.' The admission carried weight coming from a man who had built his public profile in part around supporting Trump's campaign against what he and others called the 'deep state.'
Shawn Ryan: "They are legitimately proactively protecting ped*philes by redacting the abusers' names… The f*cking White House is protecting ped*philes. You hear that? They're f*cking protecting ped*philes. It's what the f*ck they're doing!"pic.twitter.com/KMWGWAJcIO

The $10 Billion 'Board of Peace' Commitment
Ryan's most recent post combined that sense of disillusionment with scepticism about Trump's newly announced peace initiative. He told his followers: 'Today, Trump announced a $10B US commitment to the Board of Peace for global conflicts, including Gaza. I told you we'd get stuck funding this! Do not think some of those funds won't end up in the hands of Hamas. Let's not be fools.'
The $10 billion (approximately £7.49 billion) figure and the framing of it as a US commitment come from Ryan's post; no White House budget breakdown has been provided here to verify how the funds would be structured or disbursed. His warning that money could end up 'in the hands of Hamas' is an allegation, not an established fact, and cannot be confirmed or disproved without details of the funding mechanisms and oversight arrangements.

A Fracture Within MAGA
Ryan is not alone in his unease. Other prominent voices in the conservative media ecosystem have recently questioned Trump's judgment or mental sharpness, including podcaster Andrew Schulz and Joe Rogan, who described Trump as 'nutty' and 'losing it' despite endorsing him in 2024.
None of this constitutes a medical diagnosis. There is no clinical evidence in the material presented — only a growing body of doubts voiced from within Trump's own base about whether the president they voted for is governing as they expected.
“Maduro. You know, there's a lot going on. All these things are happening against the backdrop of China still. So even though sometimes China’s taken a backseat, it is the driving force here. You know who’s buying the Iranian oil that keeps the regime going? And what is the… pic.twitter.com/8iWzPgM0A0
